Position: Mechanical engineer

As part of Mechanical Design Group, I am responsible for

• The design and development of the weight and clearance consideration of the Locomotives.

• For the standard as well as NPI locomotives look for the weight of the truck and the platform assemblies.

• Coordinating with other disciplines and group for clarification of the requirements and impact of the design.

• Provide factory support when there is need for the changes and the updates in the manufacturing of the locomotives.

SMC AMERICA INC, TUSTIN, CA DEC 2007 TO MAY 2008

Position: Design engineer (contract)

As part of the LA technical design center, I was responsible for

• The design and development of the custom manifold and the pneumatic vales.

• Conducted structural analysis of the custom manifold and valves using 2D/ 3D mesh generation using Finite Element method

• Developed a numerical code in MATLAB to evaluate the buckling failure of the manifold

• Data analysis of numerical results to suggest necessary design changes using SolidWorks to reduce flow induced vibration amplitudes

• Carrying out HVAC design from Schematic Phase to provide support for Construction phase, which includes Load calculations, VAV box selection, pressure drop calculations, duct sizing and routing, pipe sizing, Refrigerant leak calculations, selection of AHU, evaporative coolers, ductless splits and the Chillers, valve selections etc

• Carrying out the cost estimation of various subsystems of HVAC system per Mechanical Means book.

• Detailing of various solid models of the excavator using Pro/E Wildfire

• Used top down assembly technique for modeling of Front Axle of Tractor in Pro/E wildfire.

• Modeling of Front and Rear Frame of Tractor.

• Developing of new variant of tractor from the existing product to specify the design changes. For enhancing analysis in ANSYS, FEA model (Single Solid Model of the assembly without Geometric checks) is developed.

• Creating illustrations of the parts manuals for the product groups like Motor Graders, Excavators, Engines, Track Type tractors etc. using company’s proprietary graphics tool Canvas 9i. The Pro/E Wildfire tool was used to create the 3D models of the serviceable parts

• Experience in developing illustrations for the Wiring and Harness Assemblies, Hose Assemblies, tool kits etc.

• Editing (Reviews) the illustrations according to the quality standards.

• Identifying the Serviceable parts for the products like Engines, Motor Graders.

• Developing equipment layouts for the furnaces, grinding, polishing and lapping machines.

ACADEMIC ASSIGNMENT

Fabrication of the Gantry Type Robot

• It is three-dimensional Cartesian Coordinate System Robot, having 3 Degrees Of Freedom. The robot was designed to handle the payload of 5 kg. The movements of lead screw and gripper were designed using the stepper motors of the various torques. The coordination and control of the stepper motors was done using the micro controller based circuitry. The design of the robot was done using AutoCAD 2000 and ProE 2001.

• Responsibilities: I was responsible for the design and manufacturing of the lead screws, frame, nuts and acrylic body parts of the robots using AutoCAD 2000 and ProE Wildfire. This includes detailed drawing of the Cartesian Coordinate Robot in ProE 2001.
