Manager, Manufacturing and Quality

Led the design, development and implementation of high-quality, low-volume motorcycle assembly facility resulting in better-than-budgeted costs with 100% schedule attainment through three model years. These efforts include specifying and sourcing of capital equipment, determining and fulfilling manpower requirements, leading process development efforts on two assembly lines and related sub-assembly areas, defining and implementing quality-at-the-source and safety efforts. Direct production scheduling for the facility and facilitate manpower and maintenance needs. Also direct safety and environmental requirements as they relate to the facility and its daily operation with the company being recognized by our insurance carrier for outstanding safety results. Also assist in product development, government compliance and customer interface efforts.

Led efforts to incorporate automated vehicle handlers into a low-volume Custom Vehicle assembly operation with project on schedule and under budget. Developed assembly process, generated assembly work instructions, trained operators, designed line layout, determined tooling requirements and implemented change-over of assembly line. Liaison to the design community for vehicle development and was a lead for establishing corrective action for entity-wide Quality issues. Led technical problem-solving teams addressing Continuous Improvement (cost and quality) of assembly and fabrication processes with approximately $155K in annual savings to the company. Implemented Advanced Product Quality Planning with focus on IPPAP including Process FMEAs, Control Plans and process capability studies. Led the training of IPPAP techniques throughout the enterprise. Led the formation of Process Quality efforts for start-up of new fabrication facility including the implementation of on-line SPC tools and real-time in-process gauging. Designed high-volume, automated mold/trim equipment in support of multiple international J.I.T. facilities making automotive interior and acoustic components. Tooling Engineer (1980-1988)

Scheduled and designed all production tooling, plus numerous prototype fixtures ranging from simple drill jigs to large hydraulically and pneumatically operated holding devices for NC machine shop. Implementation of tooling required detailed interface with vendors and fabricators. Recommended machining methods for production of parts and performed basic programming of NC lathes. Tracked tooling cost accounting records for up to 20 government contracts, was recognized for cost reductions and was involved in capital equipment selection.
