PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
DIVERSIFIED AUTOMATION, Louisville, KY 2008 – 2010 CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Primarily responsible for the startup and commissioning of conveyor control systems for the package handling industry. Major clients included FedEx Ground and United Parcel Service. This position required considerable travel 30-50% of the time. Primary duties included: • Programming of automation controllers using Rockwell Automation's RSLogix5000. • Programming of graphical display units using Proface ProDesigner and GP-ProEX • In-house simulation and testing of the system software's integration • Compilation of test plans and procedures into a comprehensive test package for startup and commissioning, utilizing a combination of Microsoft Word and Excel 2007, as well as AutoCAD LT. • Engineering supervision of an electrical installation crew during startup and commissioning. • Troubleshooting of system hardware during startup and commissioning. • Debugging of system software during startup and commissioning. • Training of managers and operations personnel on how to use the new system. ECS SOLUTIONS, Evansville, IN 2005 – 2008 CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Primarily responsible for working alone and as part of a project team to develop and implement control system improvements. Also provided on-site troubleshooting support in a timely manner to various clients. This position required flexibility and constantly learning new technologies. Primary duties included: • Integration of hardware from various automation vendors to meet clients' requirements. • Design of new control systems, and improvements to existing systems, utilizing AutoCAD. • Coordination with Electrical Designers to produce a complete control system design package. • In-house programming, simulation, and testing of system software integration. • Compilation of detailed installation packages to be performed during brief downtime periods. • Engineering supervision of an electrical installation crew during startup and commissioning. • Troubleshooting of system hardware during startup and commissioning. • Debugging of system software during startup and commissioning. • Training of managers and operations personnel on how to use the new system. Notable projects include: • Implementation of VFD winch controls for a barge unloader at Western Kentucky Energy. • Replacement of legacy hardwired relay controls with a ControlLogix PAC and RSView SE stations on the bottom ash system of Sikeston BMU's coal-fired power generation plant. • Conversion of two PLC3 legacy systems to newer ControlLogix PAC technology on Alcoa Warrick's Cold Mill 2 and Cold Mill 4. Also assisted with projects in the preheat furnaces, reversing mill, and annealing furnaces. • Programming, startup, and commissioning of several finishing systems by George Koch & Sons. • Several small panel design projects requiring a quick turnaround for Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Indiana. MURPHY & ASSOCIATES, Evansville, IN 1999 – 2005 CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Primarily responsible for the management of control system design from concept to delivery. Also provided on-site troubleshooting support in a timely manner to various clients. This position required an engineer willing to be flexible and constantly learn new technologies. Primary duties included: • Integration of hardware from various automation vendors to meet clients' requirements. • Design of new control systems, and improvements to existing systems, utilizing AutoCAD. • Coordination with Electrical Designers to produce a complete control system design package. • In-house programming, simulation, and testing of system software integration. • Engineering supervision of an electrical installation crew during startup and commissioning. • Troubleshooting of system hardware during startup and commissioning. • Debugging of system software during startup and commissioning. • Training of managers and operations personnel on how to use the new system. Notable projects include: • Creation of a Visual Basic product demonstration program on CD for a lawn equipment manufacturer to be utilized by sales personnel when interacting with potential customers at various trade shows. • Installation of several new cup conveyor lines for Berry Plastics, a major producer of thermoformed plastic cups. • Implementation of multiple Remote Terminal Units to measure and report data on a ground water remediation system for Kaiser Aluminum. Programmed RTU with C to send reports to a central database via FTP and to create and display a web page report utilizing the built-in web server. • Systems integration for two in-line chassis inspection stands for Tower Automotive, a major automotive vendor. • Creation of an environmental reporting system for boiler units at GE Plastics. CASE ENGINEERING, Evansville, IN 1998 – 1999 CONTROL SYSTEMS ENGINEER Primarily responsible for the management of control system design from concept to delivery. Primary duties included: • Integration of hardware from various automation vendors to meet clients' needs and requirements. • Design of new control systems, and improvements to existing systems, utilizing AutoCAD. • Coordination with Electrical Designers to produce a complete control system design package. • In-house programming, simulation, and testing of system software integration. • Engineering supervision of an electrical installation crew during startup and commissioning. • Troubleshooting of system hardware during startup and commissioning. • Debugging of system software during startup and commissioning. • Training of managers and operations personnel on how to use the new system.
