As the Chief Executive Officer, working closely with the Board of Directors, I worked to accomplish the National Kidney Foundation Serving Alabama’s mission by insuring the overall well being of the organization. This includes the protection, preservation and acquisition of resources (human, financial, political) to advance the organization’s mission and interests.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Leadership and Direction
§ Developing and maintaining successful relationships to ensure that the organization has a significant role in the community with stakeholders, health care community, state and local government agencies and private foundations.
§ Formulating policies and planning recommendations for the Board of Directors
§ Providing supervision, motivation, and direction to employees.
Strategic Direction
Developing and implementing comprehensive plans to carry out the organization’s mission including:
§ Program Development and implementation.
§ Fund Raising - including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders and submitting proposals.
§ Developing, nurturing and maintaining volunteer resources.
Specific Strategic Goals:
Along with the Board of Directors, staff and constituent input, develop and implement a long-range plan that focuses on:
§ Statewide presence, designating areas where program/fund-raising is important.
§ Developing a strong Medical Advisory Board, using the health professional members of the current Board of Directors
§ Redeveloping the new Board of Directors to focus on resource development and governance.
§ Work with the Board of Directors leadership to recruit and develop new members.
§ Developing and implementing a plan to increase income and diversify income sources
Operational Management
§ Hiring, supervision, and termination of all staff.
§ Motivating and guiding staff to achieve the organization’s goals.
§ Ensuring that the Board of Directors meets its corporate and legal responsibilities.
§ Ensuring that the Board of Directors and the organization fulfills its responsibilities and requirements as an NKF Affiliate.
§ Assisting the Board of Directors to set policies to govern the organization and carrying out those policies accordingly.
§ Assessing staffing needs based on program, fund-raising and geographic needs and planning accordingly.
Financial Resources
§ Development and implementation of the budget, and meeting budget goals.
§ Develop, implement and meet/exceed a budget which includes a surplus for investments.
§ Provides the Board of Directors with timely and accurate financial reports.
Community and Public Relations
§ Maintaining the NKF Serving Alabama’s outstanding programs and using that success as the base, expanding program and public information efforts.
§ Ensuring that programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to the community and to relevant stakeholders.

As the Executive Director, working with a president and board of directors, I provide
professional support to a chapter in a defined major market area for the purpose
of increasing education programs, including community outreach and promotional
activities to the American Liver Foundation’s identified constituencies; expanding
leadership and volunteer bases; implementing awareness of liver disease and the
American Liver Foundation; raising revenue to fund operations and to support the
American Liver Foundation’ mission and strategic goals while managing and
maintaining accountability of chapter operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· In conjunction with the Chapter Board of Directors and the National Office, develops and implements a chapter operational/programmatic/fundraising plan of work to insure the successful achievement of chapter financial goals, program services, community outreach, and leadership/volunteer development activities.
· Develops and manages an approved chapter budget
· Assists in building public awareness and participation, by a) serving as spokesperson for the American Liver Foundation and the Alabama Chapter, and b) developing and maintaining effective relationships with local and statewide media outlets.
· Supports chapter efforts in recruiting new leaders and volunteers, and facilitates the orientation of all leaders and volunteers.
· Provides necessary support to increase fundraising through organizing special events, identifying and upgrading individual giving, actively recruiting new groups, identifying potential underwriters for chapter activities and researching available community resources directed at development efforts.
· In conjunction with the national office, participates in national programs.
· Is knowledgeable about the mission and strategic goals of the American Liver Foundation and has a lay understanding of liver disease.
· Upholds the bylaws and policies of the American Liver Foundation.
· Performs all other chapter duties and related task, this to include the supervision of staff.

Organize, direct and advance the office of development and related programs of voluntary
financial support and statewide fund development. This also includes public relations,
marketing, and volunteer management for three Alabama Legal Services Programs
located in Montgomery, Huntsville & Birmingham, AL.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Managing and overseeing the development office including marketing, public relations, special events and supervision of all related staff.
· Developing and setting priorities for long- range development goals and short-term objectives for the development office.
· Researching, developing and recommending new funding strategies and possible funding sources for Alabama Legal Services Programs.
· Coordinating the proposal and grant writing process, including appropriate funding agencies, foundations, corporations and government agencies.
· Overseeing and coordinating the acknowledgement of all contributions.
· Serving as coordinator for the Alabama Campaign for Legal Services; statewide fundraising campaign that encompasses five metro cities.
· Identifying and securing major gifts from corporations and individuals.
· List management; including prospect and donor lists.
· Developing publicity and educational tools that incorporate program goals, target various markets, and define strategies for maximum coverage in the program areas.
· Writing and distributing press releases, PSAs and feature stories.
· Handling appropriate print and broadcast media inquiries.
· Scheduling and coordinating publicity and publication photo shoot for the purpose of video productions.
· Writing or assigning articles, selecting artwork, and editing copy and design of all PR publications including, but not limited to, the annual report, campaign newsletters, marketing brochures, committee recruitment modules, and campaign and office collateral materials.
