Job Description
Key Contributions:
• Perform complex laboratory tests and procedures on blood and other body fluids, according to laboratory policies.
• Prepare samples and reagents for testing according to laboratory policies.
• Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation and reporting of all test results according to laboratory policies, earning a reputation for meticulous attention to detail.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and quality control for all reagents.
• Keep accurate records of quality control, maintenance and workload data according to laboratory policies.
• Refer problems and unusual results to appropriate parties and document all corrective action procedures undertaken in the Laboratory.
• Consistently commended for the timely, high-quality completion of both routine and special laboratory assays of patient specimens (including blood and other body fluids, skin scrapings and surgical specimens).
• Demonstrated the ability to communicate test results effectively with physicians, pathologists and nursing staff as a member of interdisciplinary team focused on providing exemplary quality of care.
• Perform clerical and support services as needed, such as answering the telephone, calling STATS and alerting values to the appropriate department or clinician, disposing of contaminated specimens, control of inventory, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As Generalist:
Microbiology: Specimen Collection, Media Preparation,Streaking, BioChemical Tests, Gram Staining/AFB, Culture and Sensitivity, Aerobic/Anaerobic Culture, Fungal Studies, TB Lab rotation.
Hematology: Blood Extraction. Specimen Collection, Preparation and Processing. Performs the following tests: CBC with Platelet Count, Reviewing of Blood Film, Retic Count, Peripheral Blood Smear, ESR, Coagulation Procedures and other Special Tests for Hematology.
Clinical Chemistry: Blood Extraction. Specimen Collection, Preparation and Processing. Performs the following tests: Serum Analytes, Liver Function Tests, Lipid Profile, Blood Glucose Determination/ Glycosylated Hemoglobin, Urine and Other Body Fluids Chemistry Analysis. TDM.
Blood Bank: Donor Screening/ Bleeding, Blood Processing (Fractionation of blood to different components) X-matching and Blood Typing.
Clinical Microscopy: Specimen Collection, Preparation and Processing. Chemical and Microscopic Examination, Hemosiderin, Myoglobin and other Special Tests in Urine. Fecalysis with Occult Blood Test, FECT, and Microscopic Examination of CSF and Other Body Fluids. Urinary Calculi Examination.
Immunopathology: Blood Extraction. Specimen Collection, Preparation and Processing. Performs the following tests: Viral Studies, ELISA, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Syphilis, Serological Tests (RPR, CRP, ASO and RF) Hepatitis Panel, TORCH Panel and Tumor Markers.
Surgical Pathology: Tissue Processing (Embedding, Trimming, Microtomy, Staining and Mounting), Cell Cytology.
OPD Laboratory: Generalist training in all sections of the Laboratory.
