Responsible for active whole house surveillance at 570-bed hospital and reporting all HAI's to NHSN for 300-380 beds, including Pediatrics and a 40-bed Level III NICU. Orientation and on-going education of staff nurses, PN school, Med Tech students. Consult with ID physicians on HAI cases. Review IP policies for the Infection Control Committee. Constantly monitor patients needing Contact, Droplet and Airborne Precautions to reduce risk of spread to our inpatients and staff. Work with Engineering and Facilities to perform Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) and Permits for any rennovations or new construction projects. Assist EHS with exposures of employees to pertussis, meningitis, etc. Communication with PA-DOH on reportable disease cases and have participated in audits. Highly experienced in the use of THERADOC surveillance software since Dec. 2010, for examing microbiology culture data, patient isolation/precaution lists, NHSN reporting, compiling useful data to monitor any trends or outbreaks or need for procedure changes. Liason with Microbiology Lab, due to my 18 years in that department.

Responsible for identification of organisms and antibiotic susceptibilities in microbiology cultures, as well as cell culture procedures for Herpes and C. difficile toxin assay, processing mycobacteria specimens, QC statistics and procedures and maintaining inventory control. I participated in the validation and bringing on-line the molecular testing for N.gonnorheae and Chlamydia. In Feb. 2006, I performed a study evaluating 3 different methods for rapid detection of C. difficile toxin and presented an abstract/ poster at the 2006 Clinical Viral Symposium. The following year, based on the study, I helped develop the procedure/reporting of C.difficile toxin chosen by our department. I have also assisted high school students with science projects and have done presentations in my children’s elementary school classes on hand washing and “basic” microbiology.
