Project Engineer

Planned, managed, and directed development of water and wastewater infrastructure related capital projects including preparation of feasibility studies, acquisition of permits, process expertise, and design of facilities throughout the state of Indiana. Typical projects included, but are not limited to: potable water wells, treatment facilities, storage tanks, and water distribution systems along with sewers, pumping stations, septic systems, and wastewater treatment facilities.

• Successfully completed design, operation and commissioning of wastewater clarifiers in 2 water treatment plants for spent filter backwash recycling and residual management. Utilizing most modern engineering platform procedures, numerous water main installations for new and replacement of old services were completed along with several pump station installations.

• Organized all aspects of project management from conceptual scope development to start-up for a project design team. Specific duties included interaction with plant personnel / customers, collection of data, development of budget pricing and approval, explanation of problem or opportunity to senior management, provided conceptual solutions and measurable benefits, process design, selection of equipment and its sizing. Directed routine maintenance projects in a Krauss modified enhanced activated sludge treatment (EAST) plant of 48 MGD located in northwest Indiana. Conducted monitoring of pre-treatment various industrial units located in the district for their pollution potential.

• Worked on corrosion evaluation on Boilers and Struvite analysis in dewatering unit using traditional coupon method Technifax (TF-37) developed by Nalco company.

• Compiled and submitted findings to EPA, as a part of compliance motoring of actual and potential emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hydrogen sulfide emissions in primary treatment for regulatory requirement under section 114 of Clean Air Act using WATER 9 V2 and TOXCHEM. Successfully completed EPA project entitled “Sustainable Technology for achieving very low Nitrogen and Phosphorus effluent levels” sponsored by Water Environment Research Foundation. As a project engineer identified, assessed, and demonstrated technologies and their modifications for nutrient control.

• Trained laboratory technicians on chemical and microbiological parameters of water and waste water analysis as well as coaching plant operators for optimum process control.

• Conducted experimental research related to Sediment toxicity in Little Calumet River located near the plant. Have performed particulate monitoring of Plant filtration assembly and silt analysis for bulk density and particle characterization of bio solids. Conducted dye spike tests for effluent travel time to the plant from a large food manufacturing unit.

GUJARAT POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD, India 1996 – 2001

Scientific Officer

Carried out work on independent technical committee from state government and introduced incineration for the first time in Gujarat state as a mandatory requirement for zero discharge from dyes and dyes intermediates to avoid inland disposal and cost effective treatment. Surveyed and monitored more than 80 units for their assimilative capacity based on Mass-balance and Energy-balance. Trained newly recruited scientists and engineers for variety of techno-legal issues.

• Worked on 76 different paper mills located in Vapi industrial estate for pollution potential and the assimilative capacities of the region in connection with the complaint from CPCB (government of India) and submitted a single personnel report to the chairman of the Board.

• Established standard for dairy waste all over Gujarat by inspecting more than 20 private dairy units for their effluent standards and process operations for their revised permit requirements from the state government.

• Conducted research to develop bio-assay test using Indian Zebra (for 3 years) in technical collaboration with German government on behalf of WHO requirement and introduced mandatory bio-assay for pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and pigments for failing COD standards in their effluent treatment.

• Developed instrumental analytical technique for AOx analysis from effluent and fluoride analysis from solid waste lechate for the first time in central laboratory.

• Inspected, evaluated, and enforced stringent action on conventional recycling of plastic waste and lead recovery from imported metal scrap as a single officer committee in Kandla Port industrial estate of Kutch district in Gujarat. Was awarded for the goal achievement by completion of the task from the department.

• Actively involved in routine monitoring and evaluations on air and waste water treatments processes, established specifications and standards form many different waste disposal systems including common effluent treatment plants, and optimized the efficiency of effluent treatment as well as the transfer and transport of effluent from individual plants.
