Opportunity: New product to distribute in US, sourced from Europe, private labeled to compliment existing products. Costing involved the purchase of products in Euro's and air-freight costs, in addition to exchange rate conversions. Chose a product that could be sold with a technology niche that did not exist from other manufacturers
Impact: Sales were successful due to having a product diversified from the competition
Opportunity: Import products from Asia, costing of machines created an opportunity to make 200% profits but involved managing inventory. Order lead times of specific machines based on sales forecast data and quote activity. Orders had to be made 4-6 months in advance of demand requirements.
Limited number of product types to supply in order to reduce inventory levels but provide adequate product offerings.
Impact: Maintained budget for products and captured significant market share
Opportunity: Increase sale of products. Minimal sales training costs to educate the sales reps on product offerings and capabilities. Always available on an 800-line for customers and reps. Focused on how the products were differentiated from the competition providing useful tools to promote.
Impact: Successful because had products and support that were better than other companies.
Opportunity: Reducing delivered cost of products while maintaining adequate service levels. Planned and negociated pricing levels and supplier response requirements. Reduced number of suppliers and created contract pricing by giving suppliers more business thus decreased item costs and increased supplier support.
Impact: Fewer purchase orders, better pricing and service levels from suppliers.
Opportunity: Become ISO-9000 certified. The possibility that our customers would be required to only order products from ISO certified supplier; potential loss of sales. Streamlined requirements to have the certification, but minimal additional impact on the primary functions of operating the business. Discovered that the certification provided a good baseline on how all businesses should be run.
Impact: Did not over complicate the additional tasks required.
