PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

HAWORTH INC., Holland, Michigan 1983 - August 2012

Manufacturing Manager 2008 - August 2012

Management/Leadership responsibility of 4 to 5 plants, 800 hourly and 75 salaried members. Labor budget - $37 million, Overhead budget - $28 million. Reported to VP of Global Manufacturing.

* Effectively managed total spending for all plants to within +/- 1% of flex budget.

* Held plants accountable to detailed productivity plans resulting in an average improvement of 6%-8% year over year.

* Successfully introduced new products on time and within budget by following a Manufacturing Readiness Review process for improved launch quality and delivery.

* Successfully managed due diligence on a wood seating acquisition, completed on time and with no production interruptions.

* Executed shift consolidations to adjust the cost structure due to reduced industry sales.

* Provided direction and focus to successfully reduce the cost of quality in the seating operations by 23%.

* Implemented Dupont Stop program in all plants resulting in a 40% improvement in recordable and lost time accidents 1 1/2 years later.

* Provided direction and leadership to teams to achieve on average $7M - $10 M in annualized cost savings.

* Successfully led the planning and announcement of the closure of a 600,000 sq. facility in Arkansas and transitioned equipment and product to a current West Michigan facility.

* Established a Variable Pay Plan for factory members based on performance to goal on key metrics for Safety, Quality Schedule and Cost Performance. Support from other Haworth departments was provided for this development.

* Successfully managed union avoidance process through focused communication and hands on involvement with hourly members.

Plant Manager 1997 - 2000

Plant management responsibilities for wood plant operations consisting of 400 hourly and 30 salaried members. Reported to VP of Manufacturing.

* Provided leadership and support to outside consulting firm that helped provide initial exposure to TPM, establishing a new managing process and development of results driven teams.

* Established teams and direction for the transition of veneer production to another Haworth facility, completed on time and within budget.

* Implemented a major throughput improvement project in lamination that reduced total cycle time from 65 to 15 hrs.

* Introduce AOE's (Areas of Expertise) to plant teams resulting in hourly members championing a key metric in their department and tracking performance improvements.

Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1993 - 1997

Management responsibilities for manufacturing, quality, product engineering and maintenance for wood plant operations. Reported to Director of Manufacturing.

* Established the direction and provided leadership of a 120,000 sq. ft. $4 M expansion project to meet future growth needs. Project was completed on time and on budget.

* Successfully led the effort for ISO certification and the Michigan Quality Award for the Wood Operations.

* Reduced Cost of Quality 35% by providing leadership to support teams to identify and implement key projects.

* Established yearly productivity initiatives and projects to achieve 8%-12% cost improvement.

Engineering Manager, Mueller - A Haworth Company 1990 - 1993

Management responsibilities for product and manufacturing engineering for wood casegoods and seating.
