Project Description:

Vodacom is one of the four major Telecom Operators in Southern Africa. In 2009 they decided to implement their Data warehouse on a Teradata Platform, utilizing the Teradata cLDM.

As lead Teradata DBA ,was responsible for overall Warehouse implementation on Development, Test and Production Systems of Teradata , including runtime optimization, capacity management and planning, security, configuration, scheduling and execution of maintenance.Responsibilities include , Weekly planning and Backup of the Production Database , Space Utilization Optimization and Calculations, Index and Statistics Analysis and implementation ,ETL Development. This includes any other issues raised by customers needing DBA intervention mostly in UNIX environments. During this project was instrumental in two major capacity upgrades and version upgrade from Teradata 12 to Teradata 13.10

Contribution

As DBA, the responsibilities were to deliver new and complex, high quality solutions to clients in response to varying business requirements. Some of them being

• Implementation of the New Database, including Creating users, Database Objects etc

• Profile, Role management of database users

• Physical implementation of cLDM for the Warehouse, including selection and implementation of Indices, MPPIs, Semantic layer, and Performance AJI structures.

• Current Space usage analysis, and recommendation regarding the utilization of space

• Statistics Analysis and selection and implementation of the system wide object demographic Statistics

• Compression analysis and implementation.

• User sessions analysis, resource usage analysis and implementation of the required Workloads.

• Weekly planning and implementation of Backup and Archiving Activities using Net Vault Backup utility

• Identified potential bottlenecks with user queries from the aspects of query writing, skewed redistributions, join order, optimizer statistics, physical design considerations (PI/USI/NUSI/JI etc) etc. Usage of Teradata Explain and Visual Explain to analyze and improve query performance.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is one of the largest public sector undertaking in India having countrywide presence with over 40 million wire line & wireless telephone subscribers and offer hosts of other services like Data communication, National long distance, International Long Distance, Internet, Leased Line, etc.

BSNL proposes to implement Call Detail Records (CDRs) based Inter-operator Billing and Accounting System of Wire line, Wireless, and IP Traffic through Agency based (Bureau/ ASP Model) solution. In addition to CDR based billing, it was also required that the IOBAS should be capable of Metered Call Unit (MCU) based billing and settlement.

Project Description

BCBS Oracle Maintenance Project (R.M.S) is a application development project. It deals with development of front-end application and Reports generation for the data present in the Oracle Database tables. The front-end gets the data either from the database tables, or by manual entry by the user. This data is presented for editing and adding of new details pertaining to the record fetched. The data is then saved along with new changes to it.

Reports in form of letters to the defaulters are generated automatically by the application once the required conditions are satisfied.
