Assisting in the development and testing of new or improved polymeric materials for the building trade. Providing support to analytical research chemists and customer service functions. Developed analysis methods using cutting edge technologies to analyze novel polymer materials. Co-authored numerous articles, posters and presentations on advances and accomplishments in analytical chemistry. Technical and working knowledge includes:

• HPLC • Ion Chromatography • Solvent & Aqueous GPC

• DSC • DMA • TGA

• ICP • TMA • Brookfield Viscosity

• Optical Microscopy • Plastics Material Compounding • CHDF particle size

• SEM/EDS • Liquid State NMR • Horiba particle size

• FT_IR • Solid State NMR (Si29, C13, AI27) • Plastics Injection Molding

• Set up a new analytical lab specializing in Thermal techniques, FT-IR , and SEM

• Responsible for the evaluation and purchase of analytical laboratory instrumentation.

• Operated plastics compounding, extrusion and injection molding equipment

• Responsible for routine maintenance and more complex repairs of laboratory instrumentation

• Analyzed experimental materials, plant support, quality control and customer complaint samples.

PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT

• Reorganized the laboratory using Work flow and Workplace Organization Visual Control techniques to eliminate waste in process and motion. Maintained greater than 90% on time delivery despite workload increasing by 500%. Reduced the average promised time to delivery date by 20%.

• Developed methods and procedures that improved on-time performance and throughput in the Polymer Characterization Laboratory despite staff reductions and increased workload. Results: On-time production of CHDF samples increased from 34% to 74% and on-time production of Horiba samples increased from 35% to 80% within one year.

• Led “Voice of the Customer” team to develop, distribute and analyze results of a survey designed to give a better understanding of customer needs and values. This survey formed the basis of all CI (Continuous Improvement) efforts.

• Member of the Post WOVC (Workplace Organization and Visual Controls) Action Team.

Results delivered significant improvements using CI techniques. Exceeded goals of 15% improvement in turn-around-time while improving on-time-delivery percentages to greater than 90%.
