CURRENT EXPERIENCE

Therapist working in private practice with clients referred from the in-house psychiatrist; clients are primarily adolescents, families and young adults. Therapy is focused on Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar, Mixed, and issues related to suicidal ideation.

Therapist: The Youth Success Network: April 2008 - Present

Provide In-Home therapy for adolescents and their families; provide therapy in areas such as Newark, Paterson, Jersey City. Families cannot afford therapy services; these services are provided in-home as a means of securing services for families that could not otherwise obtain the same. Therapy is focused on issues of trauma, abuse, abandonment and family dynamics. Work with individuals and provide family therapy as well.

Clinical Supervisor: The Lennard Clinic (Newark, NJ) April 2008-September 2010

Responsible for the supervision, direction, provision and quality of substance abuse counseling services in a clinic serving approximately 900 clients with a staff of 180 staff. Ensure that all individuals admitted to treatment are properly assessed and meet admission criteria. Oversees the actual work of Outpatient Counselors in such areas as Counseling relationships, Client Welfare, Clinical Assessment and intervention approaches, clinical skills and programs. Additionally, responsible for specialized client caseload and run three Groups of clients in the program.

Therapist: Damon House January 2010 – April 2010

Provided therapy for Co-Occurring disorders to residents of therapeutic community as adjunct to their addiction counseling. Primarily worked with trauma issues, PTSD, sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse. Majority of addiction clients with trauma related co-occurring disorders were female; consequently the majority of the caseload was also female although worked with many male clients as well on issues of depression and anxiety.

Worked with another consulting firm to develop compliance solution for changing regulatory schema based on financial collapse of major financial institutions. Developed compliance analyses workflows, checklists and regulatory compliance consultant programs plus marketing outreach.

Managed a group of Product Managers, set the strategic direction for a financial services department within a software company delivering compliance products to the financial industry. Manatee Glens Diversion Program: April 2003-November 2005

Worked with families referred by Child Protection Investigators (CPI); had direct experience working with children who had been physically, emotionally and sexually abused, and/or neglected. The work with CPI referrals had the goal of keeping the family intact by providing therapy as needed to all family members – using individual, group and couples counseling, and/or using play therapy techniques for the younger children. Maintained a caseload of 12 to 20 families

MATS Program: November 2005 – February 2006

Worked at privately owned facility that was contracted with DJJ to provide residential lock-down facilities for adolescent sex offenders and other high-risk adolescents; responsible for their primary therapy work and teaching concepts of cognitive behavioral therapy. Had direct experience with youth who had been adjudicated delinquent and were emotionally disturbed. Provided both individual counseling and Group counseling; used Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) as the primary modality.

Adult Sex Offender group therapy; April 2004 – April 2005

Provided Group therapy to adult sex offenders in Groups of 10 -12 individuals, referred by their probation officers after being released back into the community. The Group counseling work was based on Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), victim empathy, analysis of childhood and other experiences.

Adjunct Professor, Argosy University/University of Sarasota: September 2003 – January 2006

Adjunct professor in the undergraduate psychology program; teaching psychology courses to career-changing adults in a program designed to fit working schedules of the students. A component of the courses includes on-line course work and discussion boards, with professor comments and participation. Courses taught include: Interviewing Techniques, Physiological Psychology, and Counseling Theories.

Intern, The Wellness Community: December 2001-July 2002

Provided individual therapy to participants at TWC (a facility devoted to the health and well being of cancer survivors and their caregivers); co-facilitated Groups for participants and their caregivers; weekly supervision with the program director and weekly group facilitation for all facilitators.

Worked with nurses and social counselors to provide support and encouragement to hospice patients and their caregivers; visited caseload at homes and in nursing homes or assisted living facilities; provided individual counseling and family support sessions.
