PROFILE

• Mechanical Engineer with over 10 years of experience in the development of engineered systems. Validated cost-out ideas to mitigate risk by designing and building samples, evaluating test results and conducting pilot runs. Designed, analyzed, tested and troubleshot a pneumatic test stand for child-powered bicycles and scooters. Performed finite element analysis and fatigue calculations to recommend design changes in heavy truck suspensions. Helped to analyze implantable medical devices such as orthopedic spinal fusion implants, stents and vascular filters. Developed innovative plastic geared actuators including a 500:1 reduction ratio planetary gear system and an energy management system for a steering column lock. Skilled in creative thinking, problem solving, mechanical design, and numerical analysis. Technical skills include 3D solid modeling, engineering stress analysis, engineering calculations, and tolerance stack-ups.

B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Concentration) from Walla Walla University.

SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Recommended design changes in suspension components. Analyzed suspensions/components and evaluated the stress contours/deflections. Formulated changes based on finite element results and knowledge of mechanical stress. Results: Saved the company an estimated 4 years of development time and an estimated $100,000 in prototyping/testing costs.

Designed a 500:1 reduction ratio planetary gear system. Performed planetary device calculations to determine the correct configuration of gear teeth and fit of each component. Generated gear teeth profiles, constructed CAD models of each gear and assembled gears together in the CAD model. Results: Retained a tier 1 automotive supplier.

Managed a project that synthesized an air/diesel vapor valve. Purchased high-flow valves and modeled a valve concept based on valves ordered. Produced detailed drawings and collaborated with manufacturing engineering to determine schedule for prototype production. Communicated with machinists to determine material availability and to produce a prototype valve. Results: Produced a prototype on schedule and within budget.

Conducted research and recommended Algor Multi-Physics Finite Element Analysis software for prototyping. Evaluated software on a trial basis to determine if the functionality matched company requirements. Compared the software’s functionality with the leading finite element analysis software on the market. Results: The company was able to perform virtual prototyping of parts/assemblies without having to build expensive molds to create test parts. This saved the company in excess of $50,000.
