Experience:

Solutions to the graph problems using Google App Engine and Hadoop (Present)

Master’s Project, Baylor University)

- Worked on the graph intersection problem to find the intersecting edges of two completely connected directed graphs using Google App Engine.

- A performance comparison over the number of nodes was made between JPA and Slim3 frameworks; Slim3 computed the intersection for up to 77% increase in the size of the graph as compared to JPA.

- Now exploring Hadoop 0.20.2 to develop a graph algorithm tool kit to solve some of the graph problems like the parallel breadth-first search.

- The Hadoop programs are tested on a cluster consisting of six computing nodes.

Simulation of Buffer Manager for Shortest-Path graph problem (October 2010)

(Course Project, Advanced Database, Baylor University)

- Implemented a Java project that simulated BufferManager and applied Bidirectional search algorithm to solve the shortest path problem in a 10,000 node completely connected directed graph.

- Achieved up to 99% reduction in the number of calls to the BufferManager as compared to the brute force approach.

Application to install software (May 2010)

(Graduate Assistantship Assignment, Baylor University)

- Wrote an application (VB Script, VB.Net) to display the list of currently installed-

and available software from MS Access database and system registry, for Windows XP

32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit machines only.

- Error check (to avoid installation in other OS's) and version check (to remove

older installations) included.

- Gained experience to write scripts that work with registry and database.

Face Recognition (2009)

Semester project, SSN College of Engineering, India)

- Face recognition done using Gabor Phase Patterns and weighted Voronoi

Tessellations binning.

- The facial features were obtained as Gabor Phase Patterns and the binning was used to

remove the computational and space complexity of the system.

Inventory Management System (2008)

(Course project, SSN College of Engineering, India)

- Designed and developed a program to automate the procedures involved in an inventory management system.

- System implemented using ArgoUML, Java Servlets and MySQL.

- Learned object oriented analysis and design skills.

Digit Recognition Using Neural Networks (2007)

(Co-curricular team project, SSN College of Engineering, India)

- Studied single digit recognition using single-layer and multi-layer neural networks.

- Perceptron rule, delta rule and back propagation technique employed; program written in C.

- The neural networks identified eight out of ten digits.

Speaker Identification (2007)

(Co-curricular team project, SSN College of Engineering, India)

- Speaker identification was done using the concepts of K-means clustering and testing

was implemented in C, in the bash environment.

- System constraint: The same hardware and drivers be used throughout.

- Performance: 100%, for 16 speakers.

Achievements:

Graduate Student Assistantship, Baylor University, Waco, Texas (2009-'11)

Stood among the top 1% in the National IT Aptitude Test – NITAT (2008)

Merit Scholarship, SSN College of Engg. Chennai, India (2005)

Stood 1st in my school (3rd in the district), Std XII examinations (2005)

Co-curricular:

Member, Journal Club, Baylor University (Present)

- Departmental club to discuss research papers related to graphs

Student Intern, DCM Hyundai, Chennai, India (2008)

- Macro coding in MS Excel

Summer Intern, SSN Research Center (2008)

- Web design and animation (Adobe Photoshop; Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver)

Technical Coordinator – organized and conducted quiz events (2008)

- Annual symposium, Department of Computer Science,

SSN College Of Engineering, India

Honorable Mention Award, (2007)

International Web Programming Competition, IEEE Computer Society-USA

- Designed a website about the unsung heroes in the history of computing in India

- Done using HTML, Flash and Photoshop

- Learned project, team and time management skills
