• Reported to senior management on the hospital’s annual operating budget which was in excess of $100 million and contributed to budget narrative for presentation to the Finance Committee, including 7 Board members, for final approval, frequently with last minute revisions being required
• Projected yearly salary increases, admissions, outpatient visits, length of stay and patient days that were used as basis for revenue and expense budgeting; worked closely with patient accounting to review and analyze billings and accounts receivable; developed annual $2.5 million capital budget
• Collected statistical data and met with senior financial management to present and review monthly financial statements; maintained monthly communication with managers to explain variances and to make them aware of need to communicate anything new for review and analysis of financial impact
• Accumulated input from online data and by set date reporting by managers to aggregate and adjust up until last moment budget preparation work while also asking questions as the process moved to completion so that appropriate adjustments could be made while the schedule and deadline permitted
• Facilitated 2/year meetings with both experienced and novice department managers to explain budgets and variances - a total of 8 meetings over a 2 week period –and to point out 1 or 2 major expense line items to “worry about”, to be aware of the CEO’s expectations of volume and trend statistics, to know what drove productivity and manpower
• Intentionally coordinated with departments to make certain all important financial measurement factors were being monitored regularly and at same time communicated the key budget factors that were most relevant to budget control and management
• Established worksheet and procedures using ratios such as worked hours to patient days that allowed daily input to provide real time monitoring of operations and the ability to note any special circumstances as they happened instead of working from a historical, after-the-fact perspective
• Represented Budget Department in developing new general ledger during computer system conversion to Meditech in 2008; then developed new budget and executive support reporting packages in Meditech; able to upload/download data to/from Meditech
• Provided analysis of lease/buy of bariatric beds and additional equipment based on projected use; analysis of effects of capital expenditure for new hospital beds (to replace current beds) on budgeted depreciation expense for current and future operating budgets.
• Wrote analysis of profitability forecast of potential property purchase using 3-4 scenarios
