Education/Training

PhD in Computer Science and Engineering

The Ohio State University; Columbus, OH, 2011

Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering

The Ohio State University; Columbus, OH, 1997

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

University of Science and Technology; Beijing, China, 1992

EXPERIENCE:

03/2009 ~ 02/2012 Application Developer/Research Scientist, SRA Inc.

● Responsible for the development of Laboratories Information Management System (LIMS). This system supports all NIEHS public laboratories daily research functions. The system was developed by integrating Coldfusion and Fusebox framework and employing Oracle database on background and large extJS/ JQuery libraries on the front side.

● Maintain CLTA project in NIEHS. Responsible for software support services including system updating and software maintenance. CLTA is a heavy duty legend system and it has been transferring to modern software architecture under FW1.

● Worked on multiple legend projects migration. Responsible for transferring legend applications was written in old version of Coldfusion without modularization into modern software architecture. Projects migration activities include establishing the project document (in jira), migrating, debugging, testing codes and eventually deploying projects to new production environment.

11/2008 ~2/2009 Sr. Developer, EB2B Dept. Nationwide Insurance

● Data analysis, business processes design.

● Develop on J2EE, web service applications.

1999 ~ 11/2008 System Engineer, The Ohio State University

In charge of database administration, data analysis, web application development, network security

Network Security System

● Monitored the business processes through collecting and analyzing transaction patterns (data mining)

● Configured firewall under Linux environment

● Evaluated system risk by analyzing log data within SQL server database

● Managed ongoing security policy changes, updated active directory configuration with VBScript

University Online Payment System

● Designed and maintained university online payment system under J2EE within a collaborative development environment.

● This system cooperates with main frame data warehouse and supports more than 50,000 students every day.

● Managed multiple data source integration, including complex business logic implementation to guarantee the accuracy of students’ account information.

● The system uses ColdFusion and java Servlet as presentation tier and business tie, and it uses SQL server and Oracle (remote) as background data tier.

● Eliminated costly data loss by implementing advanced message redundancy logic across multiple processing nodes and thereby significantly enhanced system performance.

● Designed a complete Bank Reconciliation system, including data confirmation, missing data process, data annotation. The corresponding java applications involves XML analysis, SQL server stored procedures and server-side components.

Endowment System

● Developed, maintained, and upgraded cutting-edge financial-industry software

● Collaborated with project managers, engineering teams from a third party company to ensure the best presentation of the university’s fund system and on-time completion of project deliverables

2004 ~ 2011 PhD research

Database Research Lab, The Ohio State University

Accomplished collaborative research in high dimensional database

Mainly specializing on high performance of complex data query-optimization, genome and proteome sequence and structure data classification, gene expression analysis, pattern recognition

High Dimensional Trajectories Alignment - (provide web service written in java)

● Developed and invented an efficient and accurate algorithm to analyze protein folding process

● Collected and modeled massive high dimensional data with unique technology

● Developed a novel merging algorithm for enhanced partial order graph

Proteomic Data Indexing

● Developed novel rotation and translation invariant synopses to better represent protein structures

● Applied machine learning methods to develop weighted distance metrics on the synopses in result of representing local and global similarity of proteins

CoMRI (downloadable java package)

● A Compressed Multi-Resolution Index for Similarity Searching in Large Scale Genomic Data

● Designed and implemented a sequence similarity query program tuned for DNA sequences

● Developed transformations for protein sequences, adapted these indices and algorithms for proteomic data
