Contracted to improve management of prominent LED display manufacturer located in Sacramento, CA. After first month appointed Acting CEO role by owner. Company was subsequently moved to Southern California, (owner’s location), where he could take a more active roll in the day to day operations of the business.
NATIONAL HIRSCHFELD; Denver, CO; Chief Executive Officer ; (1978 to 2006): Founded and built a company providing prepress, printing, digital printing, bindery, mailing, fulfillment and list management services to customers in the Mountain State region, a number of national clients, and several international clients. Provided direction for sales, marketing, branding, finance, operations, and business strategies, and headed decisions for purchases and development of technology. Full P&L responsibility; sold the company in November, 2006.
• Developed the business plan, secured financing, and launched the company as a one-man operation. Engineered, produced and sold all products.
• Hired employees to accommodate the company’s rapid growth, both organically and through acquisition; average tenure of employee was over 10 years.
• Secured local accounts with Comcast, Starz, Dish TV, Qwest, Frontier Airlines, the Denver Art Museum, Vail, and MDC Corporation.

• Managed the legal process for three acquisitions, including C&M press, one of the largest digital printing companies in the U.S. Personally managed acquisition planning, analysis, due diligence, candidate review and contract negotiations.
• Production shop became the demonstration plant for Screen USA (Japanese pre-press print manufacturer) and the North American demonstration facility for Beiren (largest graphic equipment manufacturer in China).
• Company grew to $36 million and 300 employees and was ranked as one of the top 150 companies in terms of sales out of 24,000 others in the industry; company received dozens of national quality awards, won a gold medal in Japan, and was featured on the cover of a Japanese technical journal.
• Sold the company in November, 2006.
USA SIGNS INTERNATIONAL; Denver, CO / Hong Kong / Beijing
Vice President, Operations / Partner (2005 to 2007)
Appointed by the Board to serve in a consultative and operational role for a fledgling franchise operation that serves all of China, including Hong Kong and Macau; company is the master franchisor for Sign O Rama for China, a chain of retail sign stores that is the 22nd largest franchise operation in the world. Function as the main oversight person for operations in China for the U.S.; monitor the actions of the sales and operations staff in China and resolve issues as necessary. Serve on the company’s Board.
• Continually involved in the strategy of chronology for store locations and openings in various provinces/districts.
• Proposed offering smaller stores at a lower price point to facilitate purchase of franchises by Chinese nationals.
• Hired a new, more experienced manager for the Beijing store, and provided training for the sales force in Beijing.
• Beijing facility provided the signage for the new Beijing airport.

Senior executive at a company providing an innovative, cost-effective software product (one of first of its type in the U.S.) that supports variable data and one-to-one marketing, works in eight languages and allows for managing marketing and branding activities online (e.g., database marketing, demographics, shipment tracking, online invoicing, managing copy, media asset management, etc.). Assumed responsibility for finances, marketing, sales, equipment purchases, and the vision and viability of the product, which was the first to seamlessly incorporate Microsoft Word with appropriate tools in the industry. Supervised four employees; held P&L accountability.
• Grew the business to profitability within four years without outside financing.
• Secured sales agreements with Great West life, Bay Group, Frontier Airlines, Prudential Realty, Vail Valley, Wing Zone, and Citywide Banks.
• Great West Life saved $3 million through the benefits of the product, and Junior Achievement saved 25% on $2.5 million annual contract due to production design and equipment.

Vice President (1992 to 1994)
Conceptualized, co-founded and served as the primary fund provider of this company that was the first to produce plastic, numbered NFL/NFLPA licensed football cards. Oversaw a total of seven employees.
• Brought the business from start-up to full-scale operation. Named the company, researched/developed technology and personally granted a patent for creating a high resolution, high quality printing process, invented and built the machine that serial numbered each card, served as the chief strategist for marketing, and directed production. Participated in the design, photo selection and cropping process.
• Patent enabled the printing of extremely high resolution pieces with better color accuracy and saturation at production speeds and at a premium price that was commercially reasonable, which captured much international attention and brought in international clients.
• Generated a first year profit of $1 million; products continually sold out in six weeks or less.
