Present (Since Aug 2001) : An Independent Consulting Engineer , self employed , providing design and project engineering services to various clients. Some recent projects include
a ) Expansion of tank farm and associated facilities of Oswald Petrochemical & Fertiliser Plant in India
Approx Project cost – US$ 800,000. Scope of my work- Provided design and bill of materials for client to incorporate in his Request for Bids. (RFB) document . Duration- 2 months
b) Iron ore Stockyard and bulk material handling plant facilities of Bhusan Steel Plant in India. Project Cost –Not revealed by outsourcing company. Estimated US$ 8 Millions .Service provided – Structural designs for conveyors , junction houses etc. Duration- 6 months (Self +1 Jr Engineer + 1 Draftsperson)
c) Coal handling plant facilities for 2x125 MW power plant of Tata Power in India .Project cost not revealed . Estimated US$ 3 Millions. Service provided- Civil and structural designs .Duration- 4 months (Self + 2 Jr Engineers)
(The above two were through design services outsourced by Tata Robins Fraser Ltd who did not reveal their project cost )

d) As Project Consultant since August 2001 of Central Petroleum Ltd , Perth , an Australian Petroleum exploration and production company, providing outsourced services to their major oil and gas development projects in Northern Territory and South Australia. The current phase of the project is drilling of six development wells and setting up of Up / Downstream facilities to handle about 6000 BOPD crude oil and associated gas. I was in Australia from Sep 2004 to Sep 2005and Dec 2006 to Nov 2007 in connection with design of production and process plants and Storage facilities and Utilities for the project. and preparation of Feasibility Reports on a 10,000 -140,000 BPD Gas To Liquid Plant (GTL) from one of their non associated gas fields using Fisher Tropsch Technology .
The estimated cost of drilling and field development is US$ 22 Millions and the GTL Plant is US$ 420 Millions ( both costs at Dec 2005). Services provided by me have been outlined above .Duration- As stated and currently through internet as and when required.(Slf + 2 Engineers + 2 D’persons)

e) The other assignments on hand include
1. Pre-FEED preparation services outsourced by a Petroleum Consulting Company based in Lagos (Nigeria) related to Chevron (Nigeria) Oil Company projects This is a 34000 BPD Gas To Liquid Plant(GTL) .The main facilities include setting up of GTL production units , Marine Receiving / Export Terminal , Large Onshore GTL Naphtha and Diesel Storage Tanks , onshore export Pipelines with pump stations and Truck Tanker Loading with associated infrastructures .
Project cost not revealed by outsourcer , estimated around US$ 250 millions
Services provided- preparation of structural designs of process skids , piping and tanks., bill of materials and brief technical specifications Duration- Nov 2007 to May 2008 (Self + 2 Engineers + 2 D’persons)

2 .Restoration and Upgrade of GR 3 & 4 Jetties of Calcutta Port Trust for handling assorted cargoes . The work involves designing for strengthening of existing wharves structures, installation of mobile conveyor systems and onshore bunkers for handling export of iron ore , installation of two POL Loading Arms for unloading from bulk vessels and additional Mooring Dolphins for larger ships.
Project Cost US$ 24 Millions.
Scope of work- provide designs, bill of materials, preparation of bid documents and construction methodology in compliance with OHSE requirements and later help the client as Consulting Project Manager to implement the project during construction stage.. Duration- Feb 2008 to date (Self + 4 design Engineers + 1 Estimator + 3 D’persons)
3. FEED for Conversion of LPG Export Marine Terminal in Qatar to Multi Product Berth (MPB) to handle export of LPG,LNG,GTL and POL Cargoes with handling capacity upgradation from 10,000 DWT to 60,000 DWT Tankers
This project is in bid preparation stage and outsourced by a Qatar Contractor . The cost will be worked out by him . Currently my scope of work is to provide design of the various facilities in accordance with client’s technical specifications. Future involvement unknown at this stage.. Duration- Feb 2008 to May 2008

July 2000 to July 2001. Project Manager with Harimau Petrocon Services Pte Ltd, Singapore, handled oil , gas and power plant projects in Asia Pacific countries, ( 5 Discipline Engineers + 3 Draftspersons + 2 Estimators + Contractors’ Engineers. Peak manpower handled = 50)
Scope of work involved tie ups with local contractors in various countries, preparation of designs , cost estimates and submission of competitive bids ,contract negotiations and post award implementation through the local contractors providing them with computer based back up services in respect of detailed designs, procurements from local and international sources, project planning and scheduling, cost and quality controls, optimization of resources, attending to various meetings with clients and consultants and generation of progress reports, extra claims due to change orders/additional work/design deficiencies and draft project completion reports.
Major projects included
onshore/offshore Gas collection and distribution pipeline system in Indonesia, balancing of onshore Gas Processing plant facilities to handle heavier gas from an offshore field in Indonesia, (US$ 22 Millions)
Augmentation of Gas Compression facilities to make low pressure gas available for gas lift wells and market sale for State Oil Co in Indonesia,(US$ 13 Millions) Tendering for 3 Trains Air Cooled Heat Exchangers for offshore gas development project in Malaysia (US$ 9 Millions)
Design of process plant skids for a 80,000 BOPD FPSO for a joint venture oil company in Indonesia (US$ 8 Millions)
Front End Engineering for a 60 MW Combined Cycle Power plant for an I.P.P in Indonesia.(Plant cost US$ 18 Millions)

June 98 to Mar 99. Gas Services International Pte Ltd, Singapore: Project Service Manager, handled EPC activities for nine large PCB skids with process plants for refurbishment of large FPSO owned by Brazil Oil Company, PETROBRAS for development of their Marlim offshore oilfield in the Campos Basin in 900 m water. These involved about 1300 Tons base skid structures, 3500 Tons of process equipment, 140 T (7500 dia-in) process piping, 280 pieces electrical and instrumentation items, 18 km electrical and communication cabling and 580,000 Man hours of labour input over a period of 9 months.
As Project Service Manager, was responsible for monitoring the project control
systems, milestone Reporting , progress reporting, cash calls, and cash flow reports,
PDMS system, work breakdown structure system , capital commitment budget
system, procurement authorization system, project variance systems and change
order claims, computerized cost control system and all systems associated with the
E PIC delivery of the FPSO. Primavera P3 and Microsoft Project management tools were
used to control the project. The systems employed were Internet based WAN and LAN
reporting real time progress and task completion by percent (%) and man-hours (M-hr).
The task breakdown were based on work packages and entailed many hundred interfaces
and in excess of 282000 individual tasks.
Handled single point responsibility in setting and monitoring sub contractors. Peak manpower
of over 200 were handled and supervised several Senior Engineers or team leaders,
including discipline Lead Engineers on EPC projects in a Program Management role and
handled liaison with corporate office.
Project cost for topside modules US$ 16 Millions . All plants and equipment were supplied by client and so excluded from this cost.

Sep 92 to June 98. A Freelance Engineering Consultant with project specific
assignments with the following international organizations.

Iran Power Plant Projects Management Co, Tehran, Iran. Senior Project Manager, handlied pre-construction project work for awarding various contracts related to construction of six large combined cycle power plants at various locations, aggregating to 2300 MW. The work involved freezing of plant layouts, detailed designs, preparation of various tender packages , project planning through Primavera tools, issuing RFBs and after receipt of offer, technical and commercial evaluation and award of over 60% of the major plant contracts.
Aggregate total cost of six plants US$ 800 Millions Duration- Sep 1997 to May 1998 ( 10 Discipline Engineers + 18 persons which include D’persons , Estimators and Field Engineers)
Pechiney Aluminium Engineering Lyon, France. Quality Control Consultant for preparation of quality plans and implemented in vendors shops for fabrication of furnace and building structures for expansion of an Aluminium production plant in India.. Approx project cost US$ 8 Millions. Duration- May 1995 to Aug 1997.(Self + 2 Engineers + 6 Field persons)
ABB Lummus Global Engineering Ltd, Qatar. Senior Project Engineer, handled EPC Consulting services in connection with expansion and upgrade of facilities in three offshore fields of Idd El Shargi, Maydan Mazham and Bul Hanine in 45 m water, owned by Qatar General Petroleum Corporation and one onshore Dukhan oilfield of the same operator. This included new 8-legged platforms and link bridges, upgrade of drilling cum production rig platforms, laying 12 in and 8 in diam 21 km offshore pipelines and augmentation of capacities of platform process plants by additional process skids and hook up.. Duration- Sep 1994 to Mar 1995
Project cost US$ 51 Millions.( 2 Discipline Engineers + 3 D’persons + 1 Estimator)
Associated Marine Consultants, India. Senior Consultant engaged in structural design, preparation of construction programs and coordination of various subcontractors work for fabrication of offshore equipment like Jack up rigs, offshore platform jackets and topsides, SBM and construction of ship repair yards, container terminals , LNG handling, storage and regassification facilities etc. Undertook upgrade of Calcutta port to handle heavier bulk carriers up to 60,000 DWT and feasibility studies for a shipyard in Haldia , West Bengal. Duration- one year . Duration Sept 1993 to Sept 1994 .( 2 Design Engineers + 3 D’persons + 2 Estimators)
STUP Consultants, Calcutta, India. Technical Adviser, providing services in FEED, cost estimating, preparation of bid packages for awarding contracts, selection of contractors and assisting the clients in sourcing plants and equipment for their share of the projects. Major activities included bid design of some facilities of a 6 MMT, grass root crude oil refinery and setting up of surface production facilities for thermal recovery of heavy crude oil(18 deg API ), from two onshore oilfields , expansion of a pharmaceutical plant for production of bulk drugs , in India.
Duration- Sept 1992 to Sept 1993.(3 Design Engineers + 2 project Engineers + 4 D’persons and 2 Estimators)

May 84 to Aug 92. OIL India Ltd, Assam, India. Manager Planning (Projects), responsible for planning and execution of various onshore and offshore oil and gas field development and upgrade programs. This also included various associated facilities like augmenting power generation, telecommunication, housing and infrastructure construction, waste water treatment etc. Undertook upgrade of six National 2000 land drilling rigs by strengthening structures and draw works, modification to derrick floor and replacement of main drive motors suitable for drilling deeper wells. Also supervision of fabrication and Q.C of offshore drilling rig in the Contractor’s yard for offshore drilling in 128 m water in the Bay of Bengal , India, under contract drilling programs and setting up of facilities for new onshore oil field development for production of 25000 BOPD.( 15 Departmental which include Engineers , D’persons. Planners, estimators, Clericals + Contractors personnel which varied from project to project. Peak handled = 45 persons)

July 81 to Oct 83. Arabian Oasis Industries, Dubai, UAE. Contracts Manager handled turnkey projects for various onshore and offshore oil and gas field facility construction, LNG plant upgrade , fabrication of steelwork for platforms, risers and link bridges, onshore and offshore pipelines and industrial plants in the Gulf countries for major oil companies. Also handled material handling systems related to upgrade of cargo handling facilities in Abu Dhabi New International Airport. ( 3 Design Engineers + 6 D’persons + 3 estimators + 8 Workshop and Field Engineers. Peak Man power handled in the largest project (ADGAS ) = 92 persons

Dec 80 to May 81. Rehab Industries Corporation, India. Chief Project Manager for expansion and rehabilitation projects of iron and steel and power plants in India.

Jan 79 to Jan 80 . Iron & Steel Corporation, Libya. Senior Project Engineer, handling project activities for setting up an 1.3 million ton grass root iron and steel plant with a 700 km long 18 in gas transportation pipeline and a 420 MW captive power plant and a 2000 TPH ore handling plant to handle imported pellets and other minerals., a captive port to handle iron ore vessels up to 80,000 DWT
Jan 77 to Jan 79. N.E.D.Co Ltd, Tanzania. Senior Structural Engineer, responsible for design and project management related to housing construction projects, new interstate highway construction, small scale industrial plants , Kilimanjaro International Airport Maintenance shop upgrade programs and construction of waste water treatment plants.
Sept 61 to Jan 77. Indian Iron & Steel Co Ltd, India. Senior Design Engineer in the Plant Engineering and Development Division handling design and project work for major expansion , shutdown maintenance and upgrade programs of the production plants , associated mines , collieries , mineral processing and beneficiation plant facilities . Well versed with logistic and planning for executing extremely tight time bound shutdown projects in operating plants.

OTHER MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Written many papers which have been published in leading American Oil, Gas, Pipeline and Power magazines and Indian Journals. Also presented papers in some International Seminars the latest being in Melbourne (Australia) in Aug 2007 at the invitation of The Institution of Engineers (Australia), on my paper “Structural Skid Mounted Process Plants for Offshore Oil production”
