(1) Instrumentation and Control Technician – Bokoni Platinum Mines Ltd

April 2011 to date

Bokoni concentrator processes ore to concentrate and sends it to Polokwane smelter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance and repair of level, temperature, pressure, flow, density and weight instrumentation for crusher plant, milling section, floatation cells, filter press and tailings thickener.

Timeous breakdown attendance.

Daily and weekly inspections as per schedule and corrective action.

Faultfinding and troubleshooting using PCS7.

Standby duties and overtime when required.

Assisting in plant upgrades and commissioning of new equipment.

Conducting mini hazard identification and risk assessment prior to tasks.

(2) Instrumentation and Control Technician – Apollo Tyres - Ladysmith

December 2009 to March 2011

Apollo Tyres is a manufacturer of Dunlop passenger tyres. Its factory is situated in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province town of Ladysmith.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performing scheduled preventive maintenance work and completing test and maintenance reports.

Installation of control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes.

Periodic calibration of components, instruments and loops according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Consult manufacturers manuals, circuit diagrams and blue prints to determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, density, among other variables in manufacturing and processing.

Trouble shooting of control loops and attending to breakdowns.

Assisting and working with artisans during plant breakdowns refurbishments / shutdown’s

Consulting with and advising process operators/operations personnel.

Training of apprentices, attachment students and learner graduates.

Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE), such as conducting safety talks, ensuring good house keeping, waste management, among other duties.
