Factory Supervisor & Shipping Manager January 2006 to June 2011.

Oshkosh Coil and Spring Co. (Manufacture springs and wire forms)

Directed 97 employees to achieve shipping goals and optimize efficiency for multiple shifts.

OCS is run like a job shop. Each day I set up small work cells to push through orders that must be completed by the end of the shift.

Operations included coiling, heat-treat, looping, bending, grinding and powder coating.

Mentored new employees and promoted cross-training on all three shifts to create a more flexible work force.

Improvements made included reorganizing the shipping/parts department creating an inventory system that was more accurate and greatly reduced our parts picking times.

Plant Manager, January 2004 to October 2005.

Simmons Manufacturing Co. (Manufacture crib mattresses & changing pads)

Managed 76 employees on two shifts producing an average of 70,000 units per month. Duties included managing both shifts, purchasing, scheduling, payroll, and safety and quality programs. At the end of my first year productivity was up 20% and we had 120k in annual raw material cost reductions.

During a three-month period I relocated and layed out the factory twice. The temporary facility was one third of the square footage we eventually moved into and I had to coordinate 30 Semis using three docks to bring in raw material and ship finished goods. While we were in the temporary facility our sales doubled and I had to add and train 25 employees to fully man a second shift. We never missed a shipment.

Quality/Industrial/Packing Engineer, September 1994 to January 2004

SJP Corporation. (Manufacture baby furniture.)

Designed and implemented a Quality program at SJP. At the start of this program there were 800+ customer claims per month for defective product. Claims were reduced to less than 100 per month at the time of my leaving the company.

Wrote programs and conducted training for team leaders and supervisors.

Assisted in converting the factory to cellular manufacturing and transitioning from individual incentives to gain share programs.

Designed packaging for new products and improved existing packing to reduce costs and shipping damage. Babies-R-Us, 90% of our sales, had furniture packs sent from all of their vendors to be evaluated by an independent testing facility. My “Lobster” pack was chosen as the best and recommended to all their suppliers.

Plant layout for wood factory and two mattress plants.

Standards & methods for all job classifications.

Wrote for and edited the company newsletter.
