--Operations Manager Xray Detectors

Professional Experience

1996 to Present GE Healthcare – Waukesha WI

Hardware and Installed Base Manager, X-ray Detectors

Held positions of increasing responsibility from detailed subsystem design and manufacturing process development to leading groups with as many as 30 engineers, technicians, and support personnel. Worked in multiple disciplines from tight tolerance design and assembly to chemical processing to value engineering to structural design to electronics packaging.

• Designed and demonstrated a 3-dimensional X-ray collimator for a first of a kind multi-slice CT scanner. Completed the dimensional design as well as a set of mathematical equations that capture the design intent.

• Built a set of requirements for a PET scanner gantry that simplified the user intent and permitted the removal of 48% of the cost of the gantry.

• Designed an MR patient table that supports 160% of the conventional table load, pivots around the magnet, and translates in 2 vs.1 axis. Used unconventional materials to achieve strength while not disturbing the magnetic field.

• Created a 64 slice scintillator pack for the premium CT scanner. Developed a process for manufacturing this composite structure of ceramics, and epoxies at sub-micron tolerances. Designed milling, grinding, drilling, and video inspection process for single piece flow in a lean process.

• Managed a team of 13 electrical and mechanical engineers and technicians developing cutting edge digital X-ray detectors. Assign resources to balance schedule, skill sets, and personal development needs of the business and team. Created meaningful measurements for installed base health monitoring. Ensure designs that are well documented and compliant to government regulations for all markets.

1992 to 1996 H&K Incorporated – Brookfield WI

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Designed custom liquid blending and processing equipment for beer and soft drink bottlers. Responsible for all aspects of projects from concept development, to feasibility studies and detailed design, to installation, training, and operators manuals creation. Design tasks included component sizing and selection, control system design, pipe routing, and system packaging.

• Designed and installed a sugar dissolving system that created 2000 GPH of 60% sugar solution. Integrated bag dumping, conveying, dissolving, inline process monitoring, and filtration.

• Developed a 12 stream continuous blender that combined latex, pigments, water, and other ingredients to produce over 200 shades of white paint.

• Created a six stream blender with mezzanine system for handling and installing dry ingredients. Combined water, sugar, salts, and flavoring in precise ratios for continuous production of a sports drink.

• Invented a flash pasteurization system for blending, heating, and holding at temperature bottled tea products.

• Designed a whole plant water de-aeration system with output of 30,000 GPH.

1991 to 1992 Findley Adhesives – Wauwatosa WI

Process Engineer

In a newly formed engineering department, documented plant and production line equipment and designs. Selected and implemented a CAD system. Created a drawing numbering and storage system and wrote manuals for operation. Maintained the database for product recipes and controlled the product change process.

1988 to 1991 Kimberly Clark Corporation – Neenah WI

Mechanical Engineer

Developed a patented method for pre-stretching and applying elastic bands to paper products. Designed a method for measuring, cutting, stretching, and attaching elastic bands. Created detailed machine designs, supported manufacturing and assembly of custom components, installed and commissioned the production machine.

Education and Training

B.S., Mechanical Engineering (1988)

Milwaukee School of Engineering

University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point (1982-1984)

Six Sigma Green Belt certified in Design for Six Sigma, Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturability, and Robust Design. Extensive training and experience in most CAD packages in use.
