Profile
To seek a position in the prestigious organization where I can perform with all my efficiency, diligence & integrity for taking the company to next level. I would like to exploit my potential, blending my education with sense of responsibility to achieve the goals of organization, my experience on MALDI, HPLC & other spectroscopic instruments will be resourceful for the company. I skilled to work with a team as well as on my own, looking forward for utilize my education & aptitude in chemistry.
Experienced research fellow with concentration in analytical & biochemical aspects of the field.
• Worked on Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF), assessing the extent of purity & completion of the reaction performed.
• Writing SOP’s for assay’s & organic synthesis reaction.
• Performed Conjugation reaction of a synthetic positively charged peptide & levofloxacin, to produce an antibiotic precursor.
• Carried out antimicrobial assay to determine the effect of an activated synthetic peptide on e-coli bacteria.
• Worked on High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for separation & identification of finished product & by-product & un-reacted residue.
• Worked on spectroscopic instruments (atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic emission spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy) to analyze different components of effluent samples at different stages of manufacturing, to determine the composition & purity.
• Used chemdraw for IUPAC nomenclature & 3D structuring of complex organic structures during advanced organic chemistry course.
• Possesses strong written/verbal interpersonal communications skills, problem solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Education
• Master of Science in Chemistry (concentration Biochemistry), from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. (May 2011)
• Master of Science in Chemistry (concentration Organic Chemistry), from Sargodha University, Sargodha, Pakistan. (May 2006)
Lab Experience
GMU Bishop Lab Research Student January 2010-May 2011
Worked as research student in Dr.Bishop’s lab during my masters in the protein projects.
• MALDI, assessing the purity of product & determining the number of levo attached to peptide (from conjugation reaction). As the product was a fragile biomolecule this soft technique helped in determining the product chemistry.
• Conjugation reaction, attaching levofloxacin with a synthetic peptide, & separation of product from un-reacted material. The instruments involved in the process are centrifuge, vacuum pump & lyophilizer. The purpose of this study was to determine the number of levo group attaching to the peptide & to develop a drug precursor, an antibody against bacteria.
• Antimicrobial Assay, testing the strength & activity of a designed peptide against bacteria (e-coli), procedure was done manually in a bio-safety hood. The purpose of this procedure was to determine the effective concentration of peptide required to kill bacteria.
• HPLC training for 6 weeks, identification of product & separation from un-reacted residue & by-products.
POF Factories Research Associate April 2006-Sept 2006
• The effluents from different factories were analyzed and evaluated for different components like Cd, Cu, Cr, Fe, Pb, Mn, Sulphates, chlorides, ammonia, oil & grease; toxicity (BOD, COD, pH) and product quality. The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the quality of products at different stages & monitoring the outgoing waste materials. Soluble metals were analyzed through absorption & emission spectroscopic techniques, the organic components by HPLC.
• Sample evaluation was done both by classical method (qualitative analysis, gravimetric analysis & volumetric analysis) & instrumental methods (atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic emission spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry & HPLC)
University of Sargodha Lab Associate Feb2005-April 2006
• Worked as lab assistant for organic, analytical & inorganic labs.
• Maintaining the chemical inventory
• Synthesis of compounds & sample preparation as required.
