Team: Enterprise Decision Support Services (EDSS)

Project: Shared University Data Service (SUDS) with some Data warehouse work

Systems Analyst/ Programmer

Data warehouse environment:

We have the transactional systems / application areas (Enterprise Business Systems) with their ODS (Operational Data Store) Schedule. Data is copied from the source to the Data Store. We have 7 different ODS’s for different enterprise business systems) running during midnight. After the schedule is done on the transactional systems we use the ETL processes through Informatica power center workflows scheduled to load the data into the Data ware house. After the data is loaded to the DW database (DSS1PRD) through the ETL processes from the data access layer we can perform the report writing or BIRT reporting .Reports are generated through Web based publishing (IUIE- Indiana University Information Environment). Also from the data ware house the data can be accessed from the ODBC/ JDBC applications.

Shared University Data Service

The, Shared University Data Service, is a common set of data sources for shared data elements. The production Oracle instance exists on a high availability node. SUDS have two main goals. One is to eliminate dependencies (on physical data structures) and replication in applications requiring access to other data sets. The other is to utilize Web Services and stored procedures. Our Project is about migrating the existing SUDS Database on AIX machines to Linux. SUDS DB is driven by shell scripts that use metadata on each of the different publishing systems to create materialized views. A view is set up on each publishing system that needs access to data from the publishing system.

Responsibilities:

Worked on Preparing the Technical Documentation for SUDS Migration Schedule from Unix (AIX) to Linux

•Worked with the DBA’s on the test build for SUDS on Linux.

•Creating Tables, Synonyms, Views. Wrote database triggers.

•Created and worked on the Audit Tables for the SUDS environment.

•Cut over of the nodes from the AIX (UNIX) Test Environment and pointing them to the Linux Nodes for the Test and the Production Server.

•Used Dynamic SQL for DDL commands in PL/SQL. Developed database triggers to maintain audit tables and a large number of stored procedures using PL/SQL to validate and populate the data.

•Created workflows using Workflow manager for different tasks like sending email notifications, timer that triggers when an event occurs, and sessions to run a mapping.

•Development process for new or existing DW objects - Developing the DDL ,Initial testing to the DDL in the development environment, Migrating the DDL to the test environment, Creating and modifying Informatica power center mappings and workflow load data, Develop reports in BIRT using eclipse and publishing the reports to the IUIE( Information environment ).

•ETL performance tuning for the Informatica SQL. ( Identifying sessions for tuning, Space utilization

•Used Informatica designer for designing mappings and mapplets to extract data from Oracle sources.

•Handling any Critical batch processing errors outside business hours once a month carrying team pager for 3-4 consecutive nights, verifying the scheduled completed and check for ay Critical errors and non-critical Errors.

•Checking the workflow run on the test and production repositories from the Informatica Monitor and resolve the errors involved with the failed workflows. Check the log files located on the UNIX.

•Worked on creating web forms and Perl Scripts for the requests that come in for the SUDS database.
