RESEARCH WORK SUMMARY

1. PhD Dissertation: Development of Comprehensive Process Maps for Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Ceramic Nanocomposite Coatings with Improved Fracture and Wear Properties

This includes the use of novel powder processing approach viz. chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique for synthesizing uniformly dispersed carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced aluminum oxide (Al2O3) powder. Plasma spraying is utilized to fabricate CNT reinforced ceramic matrix composite. Parametric study on the CNT reinforced powders was performed to establish reproducibility of the nanocomposite coatings in the real-life plasma spray environment. Microstructures of as-sprayed coatings have been studied to understand over all microstructure. Effect of CNT on mechanical properties and tribological properties has been investigated. The characterization includes measuring microhardness, thermal conductivity and microstructure and mechanical characterization using XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDS, TEM, Micro-Raman Spectroscopy, Nanoindentation with Scanning Probe Microscopy and Tribometer.

2. Liquid Precursor Plasma Spraying of CNT reinforced ceramic matrix composite.

3. Synthesis of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) Coating via. Plasma Spraying and Study of Nanomechanical Behavior of the Plasma Sprayed PZT Coatings.

4. Synthesis of Hafnium based Bulk Metallic Glass.

Work Experience in Ispat Industries Limited, Mumbai, India
