Career Summary: Joined the K-Mart organization in a supervisory role and following the Company’s acquisition of Sears in 2005, it was renamed Sears Holding Corporation. Promoted through the K-Mart/Sears organization to management positions overseeing a range of processes in the Distribution Center spanning 550,000 square feet across two buildings.

Scope of Influence: As Operations Manager, report to the General Manager with bottom-line responsibility for seasonal inventory levels ranging from $20 million to $65 million – 7,000 to 9,000 SKUs – warehoused across two distribution centers with product shipping to nearly 450 service centers in 15 Upper Midwest states. Lead a team of 7 direct reports in two-shift operation. Functional controls include Information Technology (IT), Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, Inbound and Outbound Operations, 3PL and Service Levels, and Repack activities. Annual operating budget - $23 million.

■ Selected Contributions During Tenure Include:

Repack Operations

Reduced supervisory overhead costs 50% and hourly labor costs 10%, improved lead times 15%, and increased productivity 4.5% by realigning operation from two-shifts to single shift process and re-profiling pick modules.

Inventory Control Quality Assurance

Increased inventory turns from 3 to 6 times annually through implementation of advanced integrated IT systems and reporting tools that reduced costs across the network. Cycle Count Cadence benchmarks were met annually and inventory sampling passed every year during my tenure – the only Distribution Center in network with this record. Due to the successful results generated from the new reporting tools, they were eventually adopted system-wide.

Receiving Operations

Appointed to lead the installation of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) / PKMS software solution program to drive improvements in both inbound and outbound logistics affecting three buildings of the Distribution Center. Receiving department served as initial test site for application enhancements. Department led the network in match rate, units-per-hour (UPH) increased 4%, and department had the lowest number of claims paid during my tenure. Oversaw installation of WMS and PKMS IT program in two other buildings in the Distribution Center.

Transportation

Reduced transportation costs $750,000 annually through aggressive carrier recruitment and negotiations that included yard services. Recruited new carriers for 3 of Company’s major service points.

Recruiting Team Leadership

Recruited and selected supervisors and team associates throughout tenure who consistently earned promotions to management positions as a direct result of their performance. Participated in on-campus recruiting functions to increase interest in transportation and logistics career options and identify potential candidates for the Company’s internship program. Initiated cross-functional training programs that were essential to improving productivity.

Experienced managing diverse and integrated operations department-wide including implementation and administration of process improvements and policies that support the Company’s profit and service goals.
