2. Science & Technology Scholarship for Ph.D., by Govt. of Pakistan, 1987.

• Research I have remained involved in several research projects over years. At University of London, I remained involved in a research project exploring the role of GnRH in hormone-sensitive cancers. I worked on cell lines and biopsy samples of breast cancer, endometrial cancer and prostate cancer. The work revealed that the cell lines and biopsy samples show presence of high-affinity GnRH receptors on cell surface and secrete GnRH-like peptides. This provided a hypothesis for autocrine loop of GnRH-like peptides in these cancers. I used various techniques as mentioned above. The work was published later, as shown in “ Publications”.

Later, I carried out studies on various topics. These have been mentioned in the heading “Audits”.

• Teaching and

training

experience

At PIMS, my teaching commitments were multi-fold and included training medical students of diploma and degrees programs in Medicine. Bed-side teaching rounds were important part of department activities. I also supervised training in Medicine of postgraduate students of other disciplines like Medicine, Surgery etc. In collaboration with Department of Medicine, Pathology and Radiology, I arranged regular teaching sessions for postgraduate residents at PIMS. At PIMS, I was given additional responsibilities as supervisor of Ph.D Programs at Qaid-e-Azam University by Higher Education Commission, as supervisor, FCPS Program in Medicine by College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan, and as supervisor M.Sc program in Life-Sciences by Allama-Iqbal Open University, Islamabad.

At KKUH, I was involved in teaching undergraduate students of medical college and postgraduate residents in Medicine. Bed-side teaching was part of daily ward rounds.

At Clatterbridge, I am involved in the teaching of junior doctors, SHOs. Moreover, medical students are assigned for learning in the clinic as per their rotations.

• Other

Professional

activities

I participate in departmental meetings regularly at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Active participation in Mortality & Morbidity Meetings (M&Ms) and tumour board meeting have helped me to direct available facilities and resources effectively to better patient care. I take benefit of effective personal and other communication means to organize my work and achieve desired results. This involves considerable activities related to clinical governance: eg communication with colleagues, designing and implementing clinical templates, supervision of chemotherapies, arranging planned teaching activities for junior doctors. I make sure that such efforts are directed to produce better results of high quality. Ethnic Diversity is characteristic of UK life. I participate in the meetings of Ethnic & Diversity Committee meetings at Clatterbridge Cancer Center. This helps to deal effectively with the diversity in the CCC staff and also with patients from differing cultural backgrounds. I also participate in the proceedings of Drugs and Therapeutics Committee at Clatterbridge Cancer Center. This committee discusses and designs guidelines for new drugs, and also necessary changes in accepted therapeutic protocols, including chemotherapy protocols. I also take responsibilities as interviewer for Medical students at University of Liverpool since 3 years.
