Vineyard Church of Columbus, (ESL) Teacher-2015-2019

I taught Intermediate English as a second language to adult students from around the world. I brought my own ideas and creativity into the Future Curriculum used in our program, assisted with any questions and guidance for citizenship, driving privileges, housing information, paying bills. I was responsible for communicating ongoing class progress with other teachers and leaders within the International Ministry. Teaching virtually due to the pandemic was a learning curve for me and the students, creating an atmosphere with an even higher need for problem solving, patience, flexibility and appreciation for one another’s differences.

Columbus Public Schools, Mentor-2017-Present

I was interviewed and selected to mentor two young ladies in a partnership my church’s community center had with Columbus Public Schools. I began meeting with them at their school as 7th graders, along with other students and their mentors. Trust grew between myself and the students’ parents, so I began meeting with them outside of school for planned “field trips” and outings. I feel very privileged to still know these young ladies and their families, despite the program being discontinued due to its loss of government funding. I have been able to continue mentoring them despite challenges due to Covid19. Fall 2022, both students will begin their senior year of high school!
