Work Experience

Je erson Family Physicians — LPN Phone Nurse

, Dandridge, TN

My responsibilities at JFP were as follows: I called patients with their lab results, answered their questions the patient may have regarding the lab to the best of my knowledge and within my licensure, documenting the conversation in patient EMR. If further information or concerns were requested a message would be sent to the appropriate provider. I took calls from patients to re ll medications. This could be completed by me if the patient had been seen within six months and had a scheduled follow up appointment. However, if the requested medication was for a controlled substance, the request would be sent to the provider for their review, including the last date lled, last appointment and future appointment for this patient. Patients could call in and leave a message for a return call from the phone nurse and I would review these messages and call patients back for either re lls as discussed above, health concerns, medication questions, COVID testing, etc. If the call was a case that the patient needed to be seen, I would document all information, schedule the patient for a same day appointment. However, if the patient was in need of emergent care I would refer them to the ED with an “Urgent, red agged” message for the provider to review and be aware of the patient situation. I have called 911 for patients on my cell phone and kept the patient on the o ce phone until EMS arrived. I called 911 for providers if the patient came to our o ce and needed to be sent to the ED. I called the ED gave report then faxed pertinent information for smoother transition in to the ED. Occasionally the o ce staff answering the phone would feel it appropriate to come to my o ce for a call to be taken rather than sent to my voice mail and I would take the call and handle it appropriately. Documenting all information and actions taken. This practice had Internet access to several area hospital r records, I would obtain these if needed for a provider, example testing or hospital stays at the hospital or other testing facilities. I occasionally was asked to assist a provider if the clinical nurse was busy. I gave injections occasionally. I trained other nurses to do this job for PRN purposes. I worked with six MD’s and four PA’s.

Pinehurst Medical Clinic — LPN ~ Phone Nurse

Northern Nurse Practitioners — LPN

Education

Evarts High School — Business Certi cantion

*There was a break in my employment, I worked here two separate times. I took time off to be with my husband who retired from the ARMY, I went back to the doctor and was asked to come back, and I did. I was welcomed back by everyone and enjoyed working here. The only reason I left the second time is because I moved from Tennessee to Kentucky.

, Pinehurst, NC

Similar to the previous job responsibilities, however, we did not have access to medical records from other facilities at that time. The job requirements were to take calls from patients from patients, patients would hold until one of the nurses of six of us could take their call. Documentation is key, the providers were in another building so it was imperative that appropriate information was obtained for quicker and best patient care is applied. I re lled medications from patients as long as the patient had an upcoming appointment and had been seen within six months. Otherwise a message would be sent for provider review. If a controlled substance was being requested, the provider would receive a message for review. If a patient needed to be seen that day I would schedule that patient, and again, actions taken and information given was documented.

*I worked at this o ce two separate times as well. The rst time I left was due to my husband who was in the ARMY at that time was stationed from Fort Bragg, NC to Fort Polk, LA, I later came back to NC and was welcomed back to Pinehurst Medical.

, Watertown, NY

My responsibilities included preparing the UVA/UVB room for treatments, check and document temps of the refrigerators, check the e cacy of the Wavacide in each room and document results. Fill the liquid nitrogen canister for the day. Rooming patients, I worked with two different nurse practitioners at this o ce, rotating monthly from one provider to the other. I assisted the providers with procedures such as biopsies, punch biopsies, removal of skin tags, etc. was. Responsible for verifying patient identi ers, labeling the specimen bottles with patient information. The patient information was recorded in a “Cancer Book” to ensure all results were received, reported and all appropriate actions taken for the best possible patient care. This book was solely my responsibility. I spoke to the drug reps, I kept the drug closet up to date, contacted to reps if we needed a speci c sample.

*The reason I left this job was due to my husband being stationed from Fort Drum, NY to Fort Bragg, NC.
