Intelligence Analyst

IntelliWare Systems

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express interest in the Intelligence Analyst position at IntelliWare Systems. I am a graduate student studying Security Policy Studies at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs and a recent graduate of King’s College London’s War Studies Department. My time at the Elliott School and at King’s, along with my internship experience at the Brookings Institution and the U.S. Senate, have equipped me with valuable analysis and communication skills that make me an ideal candidate for this position.

At the Elliott School, I am engaged in the study of the fields of intelligence, disinformation, and terrorism, and my dissertation at King’s was focused on comparative counterinsurgencies. The depth of my analysis on international security issues, eagerness to engage constructively with professors and peers, and the quality of my writing has helped me maintain top marks and build personal and professional connections with those around me. Beyond curiosity, I love my studies because they are a means to an end: a career in the federal civil service. As such, I have maximized my time in school by taking courses on alternative (or “red team”) analysis and negotiation skills or by developing my ongoing capstone project on the pitfalls of countering Russian disinformation campaigns. I have leveraged my time in university to become an adept communicator as I assembled a team of debaters, reaching the French cup semi-finals, illustrating my abilities as a communicator and a team leader.

My recent internship at Brookings was a valuable experience that helped me build skills in analysis and adaptability. Working thirty hours a week while continuing as a full-time graduate student pushed me. One of the greatest benefits of this experience was that I was able to engage with subjects almost entirely new to me, such as illicit water trafficking, Iraqi politics, and Chinese influence-building in Central America. Undeterred, I worked hard to flatten the learning curve. My success as a research intern, a coworker, and in transitioning seamlessly to telework as the Covid-19 crisis intensified testifies to my adaptability, persistence and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite a premature departure from the physical office, I made the best of my time there, seeking out Brookings scholars from whom I learnt a lot, and befriending my peers and supervisors. Previous internships helped me develop new skills and given me exposure to subjects like data analysis, such as my work for CT Partners where I compiled raw data on clients’ digital presence and made preliminary assessments. It was important to assess clients’ past ability to attract online attention to their projects. I hope to put these communication, analysis skills and adaptability to use for a good cause and an exciting career. The Intelligence Analyst position at IntelliWare Systems would therefore be the culmination of my academic and work experience. My French and Spanish language skills, my experience abroad, the rigor and focused demands of the English university system, my previous internship opportunities, and the training of competitive debating have prepared me as a thorough researcher and entrepreneurial investigator, effective communicator, clear writer and strong analyst. I am prepared to work in the demanding environment at IntelliWare Systems. Thank you for your consideration. I am at your disposal to further discuss my candidacy or provide any additional information.

Sincerely,

Henri-Nicolas Grossman
