LIFE EXPERIENCE:
Intelligence Operative, Syrian Civil War:
For 3 years during the Syrian Civil War, I acted as a de facto intelligence officer for a neighborhood community. On a daily basis, I risked my life for dozens of homeless women and children, to obtain food, water and milk for them.
I collaborated with other individuals, property owners and community leaders to ensure the safety of scores of refugees, primarily women and children seeking shelter from barrel bombings and snipers. I was responsible for threat assessments, strategy and locating food and water resources. We often used cell phones to communicate and I learned to interpret the timbre of voices and the background sounds for situational awareness.
I maintained intelligence awareness of régime representatives, resistance leaders, and local law enforcement. To understand emerging security threats, the changing security landscape of the neighborhood, positions of opposing forces, I scouted the area, investigated potential sources and reported. I was always unarmed.
This experience reshaped my personality and taught me to solve survival problems for myself and may others who depended on me. This experience has made me devoted to the cause of peace and built an appreciation of helping others.
My on the ground experience in the middle of a civil war, might be useful to your organization’s mission.
In Lebanon, I played an important role ensuring that international aid arriving in the refugee camps was not confiscated or stollen, that the food, water and other resources benefitted the intended population. In addition, I taught children math, English, Arabic and advocated for the minority communities facing racism and other forms of discrimination.
