To whom it may concern:

Hello, my name is Mikayla Hogan and I am a currently a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at Ohio Valley University. I am currently working with their Men’s Basketball and Softball teams. My anticipated graduation date from Ohio Valley University is May 2021. I will be graduating with my master’s degree in education.

I am contacting you in regard to the assistant athletic training position through Appalachian State University.

I am very interested in pursuing this opening. Given my educational background, volunteer experience, capstone, and work opportunities, I believe that I have a solid foundation in the knowledge this position requires. Throughout my time at Ohio Valley University I have been able to work with the local middle schools and their men’s basketball team, my first year there, and their Men’s Basketball and Softball teams this past year. This experience gave me the ability to see many different injuries across different genders and age levels.

During my time in undergrad, I had opportunity to complete my capstone at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Through this capstone, I was able to work mainly with their wrestling team. Through this capstone I was able to how a division one wrestling program was run as a whole. I was taught how to tape and rehabilitate many of the common injuries that occur in wrestling, while also being able to work with some that aren’t as common. While I did work mainly with the wrestling team, I also had the opportunity to work with women’s gymnastics, track and field, baseball, and swim and dive. Being allowed to work with other sports was a great experience, it allowed to see injuries that aren’t as common in wrestling, and how to rehabilitate these injuries, while also learning how other sports are ran at a division one level.

Once I graduated from Carroll University in the spring of 2018, I was able to gain an internship through Newberry College. I worked with Newberry’s Men’s Lacrosse team, as well as helping with spring football. This experience has taught me how to manage rehab and practices/games on my own. I was able to manage rehab times for a team of 47 athletes. This opportunity has also taught me how to communicate better with coaches, athletes, sports administration staff, as well as my fellow athletic trainers.

Throughout my college, internship, and career experiences I have learned the skills of good communication, professionalism, time management, organization, responsibility, and how to have a good work ethic. I am confident that these skills give me a solid foundation in the knowledge that this position requires. I have attached my resume below. Thanks in advance for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Mikayla L. Hogan
