Senior Design Project – Virtual Lathe Simulator with Haptic Feedback, Lafayette College

August 2020 – Present

Worked with a small team to create an inexpensive virtual lathe learning tool for schools without access to real lathe machinery or require remote learning due to COVID-19. 3-D modeled several components for the system including the housing, freely rotating handle, and braking components. Introduced new ideas and provided solutions to various issues that arose, such as the design for a functioning electro-mechanical braking mechanism. Researched numerous vendors to find the most cost-efficient materials to keep costs low. Created a realistic virtual environment in Unity. Made animations using Fusion 360 and Adobe Premiere to showcase the complex features of the system.
