Toll Manufacturing (Outsourcing) Manager:

Directed and managed 3rd party toll manufacturing (a.k.a. “subcontracting”, "outsourcing") operations for multiple industrial and regulated businesses with the goal of identifying and providing cost effective manufacturing and packaging solutions for new and existing products. This included:

- scoping business and production requirements

- identifying potential vendors and evaluating proposals,

- assisting in or leading contract/price negotiations,

- coordinating pilot production and scale-up activities,

- coordinating Ashland SAP system set-up,

- transitioning to and managing commercial production activities,

- managing two non-exempt Toll Manufacturing Adminstrators

- coordinating with various Ashland business, product development, customer service, purchasing, logistics and technical support personnel to enable cost efficient operations and error free customer shipments.

I managed inventory control and quality systems at the sites and provided guidance for budgeting processes. I served as the subject matter expert ("SME") for the SAP subcontracting transactional process. I was responsible for periodic Environmental, Health &Safety and Quality Management reviews/audits of the sites. I served as the Toll Manufacturing Lead for Ashland and, in this capacity, I identified and implemented process efficiency projects for all Ashland toll manufacturing locations as well as administering various training and tracking processes.

Supported the planning groups within Ashland to implement comprehensive global planning systems/processes including:

- determination and definition of the planning model for specific businesses

Designed, implemented and managed a third party production scheduling process utilizing SAP functionality for water-based adhesives and implemented S&OP principles for this line of business while managing performance of key operations metrics. Managed inventory for the composites business globally achieving a 20% reduction. Analyzed and managed export logistics for the composites business sourcing from North America to other regions to meet/exceed inventory, utilization and service goals.

SAP Implementation Team:

I designed, configured, and tested sourcing processes for direct and indirect materials within Ashland's new global SAP system. This included Request for Quotation ("RFQ"), Contracts, Source Lists, Purchasing Info Records, and Framework order documents. I documented and trained user and regional trainers in these processes. I designed, configured and implemented the processes for moving sourcing documents/data from Ashland's legacy systems to the SAP system prior to each region’s "Go-Live". I was the Source to Pay ("STP") Team's Data Lead and monitored and assisted in other STP data conversions. I designed, configured, tested and documented all STP hard copy and electronic output documents for all global regions.

Senior Buyer:

I managed the North American procurement of services, containers and packaging. I also served as the primary resource for packaging regulatory issues and packaging design issues. I determined buying strategies, implemented collaborative supplier programs, negotiated contracts, and resolved purchasing issues related to the purchase of a packaging commodity or service.

Notable accomplishments:

- Leadership of a purchasing consortium program involving Ashland businesses and 2 external partner companies worth $250+ MM over 3 years and involving over 80+ plant sites. Total Ashland program savings: $4 MM annually (~10%).

- Implementation of a company-wide container specification database covering 900+ container specifications.

- Determination of container specs for thousands of products for Ashland Distribution Company’s SAP system and creation and administration of supplier contracts for 65 sites.

- Implementation of a national program for drum purchases which saved the corporation $2.5MM annually (8%).

- Implementation of a standard bulk box for Ashland Distribution Company resulting in reduced product loss and annual savings of $300M,

- Implementation of a standardized specification system for all containers and packaging.

- Creation of a contract administration and evaluation database.

I was an active member of the Chemical Packaging Committee of the Institute of Packaging Professionals and served on sub-committees.

Philadelphia, PA (1992-1997)

Plant Operations Manager:

I managed the production operations at a 24 hour, 7 day/week batch chemical plant producing unsaturated polyester/vinyl ester resins. Major responsibilities included:

- production planning and scheduling, hiring, development, and supervision of 2 engineers, 4 supervisors, and 24 hourly personnel,

- review and approval of all operational and product procedures,

process optimization/trouble shooting,

- routine interface with plant maintenance and quality control personnel as well as with division customer service, sales, and technical personnel to resolve plant/customer issues.

Notable accomplishments included:

- plant production records for the last 4 years,

- a total production increase of almost 50% from 1992 (49 MMlbs) to 1996 (73 MMlbs),

- successful start-up of new $3.2 MM reactor and process,

- ISO 9002 certification,

- successful hiring of 7 operators, 2 engineers, and 2 supervisors.

Special commendations include a division “Champions” award for assisting to secure a new bulk customer and a “Pride-in Performance” award for handling an emergency response incident involving an overturned tanker.

Assistant to the Manufacturing Director:

Assisted the division’s Manufacturing Manager in various projects and duties including preparation of a division facilities plan, standardization of plant accounting categories, tracking of plant waste streams and costs, and standardization of plant quality control testing.

Accomplishments included initiation of a division “Check Sample” program, initiation of a semi-annual plant Quality Control Chemists meeting, and standardization of division product production procedures, standardization of the environmental reporting for the divisions operating locations.

Notable accomplishments included completion of SARA reports using database software (first in the company), development of a software program to generate an in-process control graph (“chute”) for each product, and development of written plant SOP’s for all safety programs.
