EXTENSION AGENT: Provided opportunities for knowledge sharing and skill transfer among rural Cameroonian communities. Conducted a community assessment survey to gauge importance of issues and what possible interventions that could take place during my service. Worked with a women’s cooperative that does dry season vegetable gardening for additional income. Hosted a meeting with a women’s cooperative to provide information on the role of vitamins in the human diet and age and sex appropriate nutrition. Organized a distribution that provided 2,550 climate adapted cassava cuttings to three villages and three kilos of orange fleshed sweet potato slips paid for by community funds. Organized an informational session on using Kenyan top bar hives for a beekeeping co-op. Hosted a sensitization on yam cultivation, harvesting, and storage for a group of six farmers.
EDUCATOR: Collaborated with community hosts, colleagues, and fellow volunteers to host an event on the malaria bike tour that included grassroots soccer, bed net hang up demonstrations, and malaria trivia. Facilitated two sessions on reproduction, anatomy, and HIV propagation for adolescent girls during a summer camp. Hosted a talk on the importance of proper hand washing techniques at a primary school that reached 348 students.
