EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

At present I am engaged as a freelance online English teacher. (July 2013). I was engaged on a full time basis at a Turkish language school called New York Studio formerly (Berlitz), Istanbul. There I taught young children aged between 9 and 12 years, General English to adults as well as Business English. I was initially employed by the school between March of 2013 and July. However, I was invited to return in February 2014 to resume my teaching position. I left in September to return home and concentrate full time on online teaching

Previously I worked extensively in China. April 2010 to February 2013.

There I taught English, International Baccalaureate, at the World Foreign Language Middle School. Specifically I worked for the Middle Year Programme.

Before that, from September 2011 to July 2012, I was employed by a Canadian International school once again in Shanghai. There I taught writing, reading, speaking skills, drama and social studies. During the 2011 and 2012 season I also taught English on a part time basis at Jiaotong University. Before these appointments, I taught general English in a number of Chinese schools covering a variety of different abilities and skills ranging in age between 1st grade through to senior level.

During my period of work in Shanghai I also contributed as a guest lecturer and academic advisor for The Association of International Accountants

In addition to the above outlined skill and achievements I taught private IELTS preparation classes.

I arrived in Shanghai, China in April of 2010. I was contracted by an agency that works with public schools supplying native English language speakers/ teachers to various public schools.

In the summer of 2010 I taught at an English summer camp in Inner Mongolia. There I taught Junior grade. Further to that I returned to Shanghai to teach for two weeks at a Canadian summer camp that specialised in intensive training of students in preparation for them to travel to Canada to study at university there. I later returned to the Canadian summer camp in 2011.

In February of 2011 I joined UNISTAR, an Australian/ Chinese teaching venture where I became their resident ‘writing’ teacher. The company dealt with Chinese vocational students who wished to find work in the Australian (New South Wales) aeronautics industry.

Experience:

Lesson Planning, Course planning, Exam writing, Exam marking.

As an actor:

In 2019 In the feature movie Danny, Boy, Legend, I performed the role of a London producer.

In 2011 I performed the part of the Italian consulate in the television series, XUE ZHAN CHANG KONG.

In Shanghai I was able to, once again, do some Voice Over work contributing to the production of a video game. I have acted and ‘voiced’ many corporate videos.

I have also worked on a theatre project as an actor. I continued to perform ‘small' roles in several commercial movies and corporate videos.

In July of 2012 I worked as a model for arrival of the Louis Vuitton Autumn collection of clothes in Shanghai.

2008 – 2010 Journalist ‘ The Telegraph’ Bulgaria.

I continued to work as feature writer for the Bulgarian newspaper ‘The Telegraph’. I began working for them in November of 2008 and contributed, weekly, 1300 word articles on social and economic observations. The main aim of my stories was to convey complex issues in an easy to understand, often comical way. The Telegraph is Bulgaria’s largest mass daily publication.

2006 – 2008 Owner/director/feature writer/ The Frontier Times Bulgaria’s English language newspaper.

From April 2006 until October of 2008 I was the owner and director of The Frontier Times, Bulgaria’s English language newspaper. After having initially emigrated to Bulgaria to concentrate on various long term writing assignments I quickly identified a niche in the market for a new feature driven newspaper, which I called ‘The Frontier Times’. This continued with moderate success until late in 2008 when the first effects of the ‘Credit Crisis’ became felt, namely our advertisers stopped advertising

2000 and 2006 I was responsible for developing a concept of a radio station, which I developed as an academic exercise which later grew into a one million G.B.P investment project. I became the director of two independent radio stations. I had to raise capital organize an effective project plan and time line, in the process creating a ten strong board of directors.

September 1997 -2000. During this period in my career I moved into the field of education. I was employed by Motherwell College as a lecturer in Media and Communications. I was responsible for educating students, preparing lesson plans, setting exam papers for National Certificate and Higher Certificate students.

My career started effectively in September of 1983 where upon I took up an appointment with B.B.C Radio Scotland contributing as a freelance to such radio programmes as ‘Leisure Trail, ‘Weekend Breaks’, ‘Travel Time with Alan Rogers’, ‘Jimmy Mack’ and the ‘Portrait series, Mystery of the Maille Breze’. In addition to the mentioned radio programmes, I was also a contributor to ‘Chinese Times’ and ‘Eastern Echoes’ Beginning in Aberdeen I transferred to Glasgow where I remained for six years before I finally turned freelance. The work involved me seeking out and developing stories suitable for broadcast. Later, I worked extensively in independent radio and television as a news/ researcher/ broadcaster.

Gradually I gained experience as a U.K based voice over artist for commercials, video productions and broadcast features.

Experience and working knowledge of S.E.O, keyword, and e commerce.

Other Employers :since 1983 : Meridean Broadcasting (news features researcher), Chipperfields Circus (assistant press and publicity officer), British Telecom (directory inquiries operator). Stirling Council (classroom assistant/ behavior support worker).
