(Advanced Composite Structures)

Senior Manufacturing Engineer: Manage, lead and guide a team of 13 Tool Makers in the Tool and Machine Shop, Building and Maintaining, both, prepreg Carbon Composite and Metal Tools. Coordinate Scheduling amongst Programs Managers, CME and Value Stream Managers and utilities such as Autoclave and CMM to ensure efficient use of resources. Developed a Skill Set Evaluation Matrix, evaluated Skills, identified a knowledge gap and initiated a Training Program for the Team in collaboration with a local community college. My efforts led to an award of State Grant for the Training of 8 Tool Makers. This has increased the Machining Skill Sets and has decreased the backlog of Work Orders in by 30%. Developed a Capex Report for a Reusable Media Blaster System and Laser Cleaning Systems worth $850,000 for Prepping Parts/Cleaning Tools.

Assistant Manager Engineering (Body/Weld): In 2004 and 2005, was instrumental in achieving the quickest ever Start of Production (16 months) in the Body Weld Shop of this highly automated, high volume, high quality Automobile OEM. As the Engineer in charge, in the Weld Shop, during the project phase of this Flagship greenfield Project, provided Leadership and managed multiple crews from multiple vendors during installation, startup, tryout and debug of all equipment and tooling in the Weld Shop. These included over 200 Robots, jigs, fixtures and measurement systems in all the cells manufacturing sub assemblies such as Floors, Sides, Framing and Closure Panels (Doors, Hoods, Trunk Lid / Tail Gate). Bought off tools both on site and at Vendors facilities.

Having successfully brought the Weld Shop to full production capacity, provided steadfast Managerial and Leadership to the Process Engineering Team of 5 Process Engineers and 12 Members of the Jig Maintenance Team. This was in all sub assembly areas of the Body Shop, improving the manufacturing process, Thruput (72 UPH), Weld quality (99.9%), dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the BIW. Achieved 97% accuracy on the BIW CMM Score. Used the FMS, CMM, BIW Data and fit trend charts, quality reports to evaluate, improve and stabilize processes.

Scheduled, Planned and Lead weekend Improvement activities including, PM of Jigs/fixtures, support new model launches, retooling, startup, debug, tryout. Lead and participated CFT’s with General Assembly and Paint to root cause complex issues in the manufacturing process of high volume, high quality vehicles. Lead the Weld Shop efforts to successfully being certified as TS 16949 for the BMS.

Achieved production targets in the Weld Shop, on different shifts, during 2010, 2011 and in 2018. Consistently exceeded Weld Shop Production KPI for the Shift. Led and managed the entire manpower, quality and production objectives, maintain and improve FTR, utilization/efficiency levels. Managed 2 Group Leaders, a team of 5 Team Leaders, over 80 production Team Members, leading Production on different Shifts.

Senior Controls Engineer Successfully Lead teams in various automation projects providing expertise in control automation design, engineering, and application software development. Completed several projects for the Big 3 Automotive manufacturers. Accomplished a personal goal of working for the Controls Robotic and Welding Div. of General Motors during the launch of the GMX 380 (Fairfax, Kansas City). As a resident controls engineer in the Body Shop, lead Controls Engineering teams during the launch of the Epsilon based Malibu during Aug 2001 to Dec 2003. Supervised installation, developed application software, provided startup support for parts of the new framing, re-spot, skid conveyors, closures, underbody subs, including major revisions to underbody mainlines, Robot replacement (over 240) and installation of new tooling. Was the chief Test Inspector for the Monitored Power Systems (MPS) inspecting and buying off the MPS Systems in every work cell at several GM Plants.

Chief Engineer & General Manager Was instrumental in leading the Company’s efforts to be appointed as an Allen-Bradley System Integrator. Within 3 years of inception successfully built the Company to be the third largest System Integrator for Allen Bradley in India. Was solely responsible for hiring, training, and building an engineering team with 8 designers, programmers, and 6 electricians. During these 5 years led this team to successfully implement automation projects in diverse application areas such as cement, manufacturing, tobacco, food, power, etc. Specific PLC based Automation Projects personally supervised include:

TOBACCO: Automation of 22 cigarette-rolling machines at the British American Tobacco Co’s VST Plant.

CEMENT: Automated an entire 600 TPD Cement Plant for Devi Cements.

FOOD: Total Plant Automation of a food processing plant under license from Proctor & Schwartz.

Participated in techno-commercial bids, negotiations, developed specifications for out sourced equipment and supported Allen Bradley’s marketing efforts.

Assistant Manager As a Controls Engineer with Allen-Bradley, in over 6 years developed expertise and a thorough hands-on knowledge of most A-B’s products – PLC’s / SLC’s, Programming Software, HMI Terminals and Graphic Packages, Communication Networks, AC Drives and Soft Starters etc. Gained proficiency in AutoCAD, Power / Control Schematics, interface with Motor Control Centers, Instrumentation, Electrical and Instrument Control Cabinet Layout. STEEL: Lead an engineering team at Goldstar Steel and Alloy to successfully automate and startup the Sponge Iron and its Raw Material Handling Plants. Was a liaison between multiple installation contractors, including the technology company Manessman Demag and the startup team at the project site. Led the team to Engineer and develop the application software and design the control cabinets for the PLC 5 based Controllers and the ControlView HMI Terminals based control system.

MINING: Lead a team to design and engineer the complete automation package for a Crushing, Screening and Loading Complex at the National Mineral Development Corporation’s open cast Iron Ore Mines.
