PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - Industry

Seagate Technology, Bloomington, MN, USA May 2019 - Aug. 2019 Laser and Photonics Integration Engineer, Intern

a) Laser Relative Intensity Noise (RIN) testing system development:

• Designed and built from scratch the RIN testing system for laser characterization. The generated data was clearly documented, reported, and transferred to the team to ensure product readiness.

• Developed Python/MATLAB scripts for data analysis to evaluate characteristics of laser diodes for their impact on performance of heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) hard drives.

• Completed qualification tests for different laser designs and delivered the repeatable/reliable results to the team. b) Laser Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) testing:

• Built benchtop fiber-coupled and free-space optical systems to test the lasers and photonic integrated circuits.

• Measured the gain spectra of different lasers and studied the performance dependence on temperatures and laser injection currents.

• Tested integrated laser system in HAMR and analyzed the coupling/back-reflection effects on device performance. NeoPhotonics Corporation, San Jose, CA, USA Jul. 2017 - Sept. 2017 Photonics Engineer, Intern

Characterization of silicon photonic chip and devices:

• Developed and executed detailed test plan to test silicon photonic chips for waveguide propagation loss as well as ring resonator linewidth and loss.

• Assisted test engineers to build optical testing systems by aligning and assembling lasers, lenses, fibers, and silicon photonic devices.

• Conducted spectroscopic analysis and SEM for device failure analysis. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - Academia

Lehigh University, Biophotonics and Optoelectronics Lab Sept. 2015 - Present Graduate Research Assistant

Nanoplasmonic interferometer imaging system for biosensing:

• Conducted numerical modeling with Rsoft and COMSOL for optical biosensors.

• Performed thin-film deposition (Thermal deposition and E-beam deposition) and surface characterization (AFM, SEM, TEM).

• Fabricated nanoplasmonic biosensor chips using focused ion beam (FIB).

• Designed and fabricated microfluidic channels with AutoCAD and photolithography.

• Developed algorithms for automated sensor data acquisition and processing. Chongqing University, Key Laboratory for Optoelectronic Technology Dec. 2014 - Jun. 2015 Undergraduate Research Assistant

Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for chemicals sensing:

• Conducted FDTD simulations on optical sensor designs using surface enhanced Raman scattering.

• Tested the sensor performance using Raman spectroscopy.
