Administrative Assistant, The League of Women Voters of South Carolina 12/2020-present

I work remotely from home as an Independent Contractor providing 20 hours/ month of administrative assistance to the League of Women Voters of South Carolina. My responsibilities include serving the LWVSC Board of Directors, preparing documents for the nonprofit organization, and managing the Zoom account and attending Zoom planning meetings. I help plan virtual and in-person statewide conferences and serve as event manager on site. Special accomplishments include editing a published book on Amazon Kindle Publishing entitled, Know Your State, creating the Handbook for statewide conventions and serving the Database Coordinator. I also design graphics on Canva and assist the Communications Director as needed. The Board of the LWVSC is a working board of volunteers. I am their paid assistant. I am paid $22/hour and receive no health or retirement benefits. This position has developed my skills with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, the Google Suite of products, Canva, Outreach Circle and Zoom.

Staff Writer, The Columbia Star 5/2006-present

I write approximately five articles per month for a local newspaper, The Columbia Star. I write about local events, non-profit fundraisers, Richland County Council, book reviews of works published by local authors, and special feature stories. I served as Information, Referral and Assistance Coordinator for the Central Midlands Area Agency on Aging which is a regional office of the Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging. The Shelter Plus Housing program is a HUD-funded rental assistance program for individuals and their families who are homeless and have a documented mental illness. As Shelter Plus Housing Director for MHASC, I managed two large Shelter Plus grants which provided subsidized public housing to eighty people in forty-five apartment units in Florence, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Aiken, and Orangeburg counties. My job duties included database management on the HMIS (Homeless Information Management System) and creating and maintaining a working network of tenants, property managers, and staff of the local clinics of the Department of Mental Health for each county.

Administrator to the Director, Mental Health America of South Carolina 11/2008 – 9/2012

I began working at Mental Health America of South Carolina as Administrator to the Director. My work involved management of data, creating publication materials, event planning and serving those with mental illness across South Carolina through the MHASC Information and Referral Service. I directed the project management of the IC HOPE/ Don’t Duck Mental Health children’s mental health program, the administration of the organization’s website, acted as Office Manager, and supervised several interns from the Human Services program at Midlands Technical College.
