REF: Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist

I am an active Louisiana License Bilingual (Spanish/English) Speech-Language Pathologist (License Number 9027); and Audiologist dual Bachelor’s Degree from Valle University, and a dual Masters of Sciences in mentioned fields.

I have been working for several years providing bilingual speech language services to children ranging from birth to three years old of age in Early Intervention and Toddler programs in a variety of settings, including private practice, daycares, homes, and in the school system, working with those kids that experience with expressive/receptive language delays, articulation/phonological disorders, dysphagia/swallowing/feeding, oral motor, down syndrome and autism.

I worked as a Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist in the bilingual assessment teams oriented to work for the Hispanic population in bilingual schools for the District of Columbia Public School system; working with all kind of different students and ages, evaluating and identifying linguistic variables or disorders as opposed to characteristics that impact on second language learning, being responsible to provide diagnostic and therapeutic speech language therapy as well. During this process I worked with Multi-Disciplinary Teams, involved interaction with teachers, staff members, special education coordinators, special education specialists, principals, ESL teachers, Social Workers, Psychologists, Audiologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and other colleagues.

I have had experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families, in early intervention pre-school, youth through adults, institutions, private clinical experience, homecare, outpatients, inpatients. Other experiences in SLP I have are in areas and variety of diagnoses like feeding/oral motor delays, dyslexia and other learning disabilities, stuttering, Down syndrome, hearing disorders and impairments, swallowing disorders, dysphagia, augmentative communication treatments, aphasia/brain injuries and stroke, geriatric treatment, developmental disorders, speech/language therapy, voice disorders, cognitive challenged, language stimulation, the cleft palate, and cerebral palsy.

Most of my SLP and Audiology working experience has been in diagnosis, and evaluating different kinds of speech-language skills, and hearing abilities; and then planning, directing, or conducting assessment and rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication/hearing problems, disorders or delays. In most cases, I review individual file to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests, and to ensure that adequate information is available.

In diverse settings, I have conducted in both languages internal and external workshops, trainings and special event presentations for parents, health care providers, day care workers, social service providers, and government workers. Also, I have developed education and outreach materials; and developed relationships with agencies in assigned geographic region and/or substantive area.

I collaborated as a team member in developing, managing, and evaluating/reporting of health promotion and disease prevention projects targeting basically Latino communities in the United States.

Specific strengths that I would bring to this position include solid clinical and private practice skills, team experience, previous work experience in the medical field, a variety of programs experience, and research. In addition, I am well organized and manage my time efficiently. Further, my motivation and willingness to learn will provide the basic ingredients to make a valuable addition to the program. Your institution would give me a chance to make a difference.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity for an interview to further discuss my qualifications as an applicant, and your needs in the application process.
