SAFETY TRAINING: Whilst in the employment of ASRY and D.O.C.C Ltd, I delivered all aspects of safety training on a daily basis. This included the usage of high pressure Spray-Painting tools, Hydro-blasting tools, Shot Blasting machinery, etc. These Safety lectures started from basic setting up of your tools to keeping your work place tidy so as there are no tripping hazards, to wearing safety glasses or face protection at all time whilst using any machinery. Before the start of any job, I also delivered a tool box talk with all employees.

Whilst employed by ASRY (Arab Ship Repair Yard), I introduced a safety award scheme where the employees were awarded a prize and certificate for the best safety observation each week. This became very popular with the employees and accidents/incidents dropped dramatically within the first three months. This award scheme was published in the ASRY monthly magazine for over five months. As this was so popular with my Department, all other departments followed suit which brought the overall accident/incident rate within ASRY down to an all time low.

Career History

Since leaving school, I have held several positions in the anti-corrosion industry, working my way up to my current position as ‘Department Head’ for Blasting & Painting.

I have worked offshore around the world working on Drilling Ships, FPSO, VLCC Tankers, Drilling Platforms, LNG and LPG Tankers, and many other sea going vessels. My position was superintendent/supervisor carrying out all aspects of anti-corrosion including UHP Blasting/Painting within the vessels ballast tanks, engine rooms, main deck, pipe work etc whilst the vessel’s were still trading. Throughout my working life I have worked for several prominent Companies in the anti-corrosion industry, including; Pyeroy Painting Contractors Ltd, Denholm Industrial Services and Corrocoat Benelux B.V etc. I completed a contract in Singapore for MODEC (Dec 2008) where I was sub-contracted out from Dickerman Overseas Ltd to oversee the UHP Blasting and coatings of a conversion of a VLCC into a FSPO. I spent four months in Jurong Shipyard. I was responsible for reporting back to the main contractor as well as back to base in the UK. I am very converse with all aspects of safety and routinely submit JSA/TRA, work permits and tool box talks before commencing any contract/job on a daily basis. I have also completed several blasting and painting contracts for the British M.O.D and the work has always been to the highest standard and passed on first inspection. As my career has progressed, so have my responsibilities and for the last sixteen years I have been responsible for the running of the contracts I have worked on. One of the biggest contracts I played a key role in securing was for Denholm and netted £20 million. I take great pride in the work that I do and always give 100% to any task that I complete. I think this is reflected in the fact that I am regularly asked by Companies I have previously worked for to price and complete new contracts for them.
