PhD in Entomology, Zoology Department, Faculty of Science, University of Alexandria, Egypt And University of Hawaii at Manoa, United States of America,2001 (Channel Program between Egypt and USA) Thesis: Variation on Arthropod Succession onto Exposed Rabbit Carrions in Different Seasons and Habitats Induced by Presence of Drugs and Toxins in Tissues.

MSc in Entomology, Zoology Department, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, Egypt, 1993 Thesis: Faunal Succession on Rabbit Carrions Killed by Different Methods BSc in Zoology with honors, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, Egypt, 1986 PRESENT PROJECTS & RESEARCH

Develop a new method for using mitochondrial DNA sequence data that makes it possible to identify forensic important fly species likely to be found feeding and ovipositing on animal carcasses in different habitat. The reliability of the method was illustrated by analyzing highly degraded specimens as well as specimens collected from widely separated geographic locations.

A designer for Forensic and Medical entomology courses module for the E- Learning Neurobiology Master Program supported by the University Agency of Francophonie (AUF). Participation as an Entomologist in the ongoing project "Monitoring of Medicinal Plants and Related Fauna and Microorganisms in the North Coast of Egypt".

Started research on maggot therapy for the treatment of venous and diabetic ulcers in collaboration with specialized physicians in different hospitals in Alexandria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Omar A. Shalaby, PhD Page 2

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Maggot therapy (also known as maggot debridement therapy (MDT), bio debridement or bio surgery)- Is a type of biotherapy involving the introduction of live, disinfected maggots(fly larvae) into the non-healing skin and soft tissue wound(s) of a human or animal for the purpose of cleaning out the necrotic (dead) tissue within a wound(debridement) and disinfection.

Forensic Entomology— Arthropod succession onto vertebrate carrions in different habitats and killed by different methods including their biology, ecology and taxonomy. The objective of the studies is to identify the arthropod species visiting carcasses, describe the decomposition process and determine the arthropod succession pattern in different seasons and habitats, to give an accurate estimation for time since death or post-mortem interval.

Control of mosquitoes in a definite area. This will comprise conducting a thorough survey of the species of mosquitoes encountered in the study area as well as their seasonal prevalence. It will also include the provision of baseline data for the susceptibility and resistance of the mosquitoes encountered to the commonly used insecticides, in addition to measuring the different modern methods for controlling mosquitoes.
