I have over 21 years of employment with the State of Minnesota. Most of my employment has been for the Department of Corrections as a Case Manager and a Correctional Counselor in Correctional Facilities. I worked for the Department of Human Services as a Childcare Licensor and in the Background Studies Unit, Licensing, as an Investigator of potential employees background who had applied to work for a Minnesota State licensed facilities, for the Safety of Vulnerable Adults and Minors.

Professional: I returned to the State of Minnesota, May 2019-2020 Department of Human Services - St. Paul, MN

I returned to The Minnesota Department of Human Serives Background Study on a 1 year grant.

My duties: In this position, I was responsible for conducting background studies for persons providing direct contact services for consumers receiving services from facilities licensed by the Department of Human Services, the Department of Health, facilities serving children or youth licensed by the Department of Corrections and for unlicensed Personal Care Provider Organizations. This position required a determination be made as to whether study subjects should be disqualified/removed from employment based upon information gathered from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Federal Bureau of Investigation, county adult and child protection agencies, criminal justice systems from other states, district and federal courts and records of maltreatment maintained by The Department of Human Services - Licensing and other investigative authorities.

I was also responsible for background checks on individuals who wished to adopt or foster a child. A through background review was then sent to the County of origin for officials at the County to make a determination as to whether a child should be placed with the applicant.

August 1992 till November 2001 Department of Corrections

*Job Title: Corrections Security Case Manager-Career, Minnesota Correctional Facility-Lino Lakes

I began working at MCF-LL, Transitional Sex Offender Program (TSOP), August 1992 to July 1994, as a sex offender therapist/case manager with 21 adult, male felon inmates. My duties: facilitate groups, counsel inmates, arrange and conduct family counseling, write summaries of inmates’ response to treatment, coordinate inmates release plan with the inmates, Community Services and families and conduct one on one aftercare meetings in the Community.

Due to program changes, July 1994 to January 1998, my duties changed to a caseload of 80 adult, male release violator inmates. This position had a very fast turn over of inmates who had violated their release and were returned to the facility for treatment or accountability time. This position required organizational skills and diplomacy to implement a release plan that was compatible with the inmate, family, victim and the Community.

Due to program changes, January 1998 to September 1998, my duties changed to the Mental Health Unit case manager with a caseload of 20 special needs, mentally challenged; dual diagnosis inmates along with 40-50 general population inmates. In this position my duties remained the same except I worked closely with the Mental Health Unit and Psychology Department to release difficult to place inmates in the Community.

(Mobility) Corrections Agent-Work Release September 1998 to November 1998, my duties were to maintain a caseload of 90 to 100 male inmates on Work Release by monitoring behavior with regard to discipline regulations, discipline investigator/prosecutor, train Work Release Vendors on policies and expectations and screen all referrals for Work Release Phases.

Due to program changes, November 1998 to November 2001, my duties changes to case manager with 60-70 inmates that were a mix of the facility population. In this position, I incorporated all aspects of case work; directed inmates to substance abuse chemical dependency treatment, detainers & warrants, sex offender screening, sex offender registration, LSI-Level of Services Screening, incompatibilities, annual reviews, Program Team Facilitator and release planning are some of the highlights of my duties.

October 1990 to August 1992 Department of Human Services - St. Paul

*Job Title: Human Services’ Licensor

In this position, I inspected and licensed 120 Child Care Facilities for compliance with the Department of Human Services Rules, investigated complaints against facilities, did drop-in visits at facilities to check for compliance with the rules and regulations for Child Care and wrote citation reports for violations found at facilities.

May 1984 to September 1990 Department of Corrections - Red Wing

*Job Title: Correctional Counselor II

In this position, my duties were supervision of minimum security adult males from April 1988 to July 1989. The rest of my time was spent with juvenile male felon offenders and I supervised 27 juvenile residents assigned to the live-in unit and provide rehabilitation services in accordance with the treatment model. I was also responsible for the inspection of living units for safety.

September 1980 to May 1984 Red Wing Community Education

*Job Title: Parent Child Resource Center Facilitator

In this position, I instructed parents once a week in parenting skills and tools in a classroom setting. A half hour was spent in the classroom and a half hour was spent at learning stations with parents interacting with their child. Parents were provided with weekly packets to continue their parenting skills during the week while at home with their child.

Extracurricular: I have volunteered as a matron for transport, troop leader for Brownie Scouts, Kindergarten reading program with the Franklin Music Magnet School and as a Wingspan painting volunteers.

Awards received: I received Merit Awards 3 times for excellence in the performance of my job while at MCF-LL. I served as a Crisis Negotiator for 7 years. I instructed new staff on avoiding set-ups and surviving a Hostage Situation.
