Currently serving as Owner’s Representative/Project Manager at Elwood, IL new gas fired steam generation power plant. Project is 14 months underway into a 2 year project schedule. Responsibilities include overall coordination and execution of all Civil Engineering related aspects including Excavation, Surveying, Piping, Concrete Structures. Also act as Owner’s Agent to monitoring Kiewit Construction, ensuring all aspects of construction are withing scope and specifications.

#4 Blast Furnace Top Rebuild

The Scope of Work for this project included a comprehensive rebuild of the Blast Furnace Top Section which included advanced technology upgrades in environmental control systems, energy production/consumption systems, automated material handling systems, process monitoring/control systems, refractory replacement and electrical energy transmission/distribution. The environmental control systems included air and water emissions to meet strict EPA “closed loop” requirements (i.e. furnace dust capture & recycling). Monitoring and usage of high voltage electrical power utilized state of the art generation, control and distribution technologies such as frequency drive blower motors, PLC logic controllers for all aspects of production control. Modernization of steam power and generation included new piping insulation and heat tracing, a new condensation/chiller plant. Steam is used at ArcelorMittal as part of the production process itself and to run turbines to generate electrical power.

Duties included:

●Responsible for project management/contractor coordination with Sargent Electric

●Meet with facility operators and plant engineering to review project progress

●Identified new and existing client needs/developed scope of work proposals for initial and on-going projects.

USS (Contract Project Manager) December 2017 to June 2018

Gary Indiana – Gary Works

The USS Gary, Indiana Tin Mill facility developed a facility upgrade and automation program aimed specifically at improving product quality, reduced overall cost and on-time delivery. The Tin Mill process converted flat cold rolled steel to a product plated with Tin. Primary customers for this product are the canned food and beverage industry who use the USS plated steel to cold form cans and similar containers. Equipment upgrades were focused on reliably meeting customer standards for flatness, mechanical deformation properties and uniform gauge thickness across the width of the coil. These equipment upgrades relied on sophisticated computerized real time product data gathering and feedback to maintain product dimensional, mechanical and metallurgical specifications. Supporting these process technology upgrades required a much more sophisticated and reliable mill drive motor electrical system. Quality monitoring and control to meet tighter customer specifications demanded sampling, inspection and corrective action to be taken in process. This was accomplished with an entirely new PLC based system and high- tech operator work stations located at strategic locations on the shop floor.

●Program Manager for $51 million capital improvement projects.

●Directing staff of 4 Project Managers at 3 locations.

NiSource (Contract Project Manager) January 2017 – December 2017

Corporate Headquarters – Merrillville, Indiana

NiSource is northern Indiana’s public utility company, providing natural gas and electrical power. An upgrade of the entire NiSource power grid including generation, transmission and distribution was undertaken in 2015 as part of a $7 Billion program called TDSIC. The Substation Engineering Group is based at the Merrillville, Indiana corporate headquarters of NiSource and was responsible for the engineering and construction project management of all substation upgrades/replacements. As the Project Manager for the group of substations assigned to me, I coordinated engineering design and specifications, environmental design and site real estate acquisition (if necessary) with our engineering consultants. Upon approval and acceptance of the design, I acted as construction project manager, coordinating with the NiSource Construction Department.

Duties included:

Contract Engineer in the Substation Engineering Group (James Rey)

Project Manager on Natural Gas Pipeline capital improvement projects

Enercon Services (Business Development/Project Manager) March 2015 – December 2016

Naperville, Illinois

Enercon Services is the largest Nuclear Power Industry Engineering Consultant in the US. As demand for engineering services in the nuclear sector of the market has declined the past decade, Enercon has focused marketing attention to the fossil fuel and renewal energy markets. Enercon also has a substantial environmental engineering group that assists clients with all manner of environmental studies, permits, etc. The Naperville, Illinois office was primarily servicing the nuclear power clients in Illinois until recently when it was decided to explore fossil fuel and renewable clients across the Midwest. As a native of Northwest Indiana, I approached NiSource and developed them as a new business client and continued as an on-site client manager and project manager. I cultivated engineering services contracts with NiSource Corporate Engineering and NiSource Corporate Environmental Management.
