The BBC protocol incorporates an operant conditioning model for learned control of specific motor neuron responses which are based on decades of neural behavioral research and on motor neuron assignment. These procedures are applied to people with central nervous system damage in the brain, brain stem, and spinal cord for gaining greater motor function by increasing voluntary motor neuron control.
