I was a Lead Cycle Operations Technician with supervisor duties working in an 800 MW combined cycle power plant helping to support the facility in any way that I could. I originally hired on with Cogentrix as an Instrumentation and Controls Technician. Since TVA took over in December of ’07, I completed their Combined Cycle Ops Tech training program and my duties included writing and hanging clearances, start-ups, shutdowns, normal operating as well as maintenance work. My duties included, but were not limited to: Maintaining all instrumentation and electrical equipment and power distribution systems from low voltage, control voltage up through 480,4160, 13.8KV, 18.6KV and up to the 525KV switchyard. Performing instrumentation calibrations and completing all associated paper work, working with G.E. Mark V and VI gas and steam turbine controls, Emerson Delta V DCS control system, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Modicon PLC, as well as all other auxiliary equipment associated with the gas and steam turbines and balance of plant equipment. I worked with engineers, swithyard maintenance personnel and Emerson electric on protective relay, transformer and breaker testing. I also maintained the CEMS system, did all required calibrations and reports. I was the backup environmental person at my plant site. I have worked with Microsoft Office programs and Maximo work order and inventory system.

Weyerhaeuser Columbus Pulp & Paper Complex, Columbus, MS

March 10, 2003- June 2006.

I worked on a rotating shift as the maintenance technician for the utilities area. The utilities area was responsible for all the utilities to the rest of the mill including electricity, steam, air, and water. Utilities was also responsible for all of the effluent from the mill. I started on a day maintenance team in Utilities Maintenance as an Electrical and Instrumentation background team member, but also did mechanical work, because we were multi-crafted. I was responsible for supporting the Utilities area in any way that I could such as troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing equipment. I also helped the operators with housekeeping duties and other tasks, as needed. I was involved with the ISO Quality program at the facility, which involved testing, completing and filing test results for a variety of instruments. These instruments measured for example: temperature, pressure, flow, density, level, PH, and oxygen content in air and water. I also worked with sniffers to do atmospheric monitoring for oxygen, carbon monoxide, explosive gases, and hydrogen sulfide gas. They also had instrumentation that I helped maintain that did environmental monitoring for air emissions and all effluent leaving the facility. Some of the things we monitored were OPACITY, NOX, SO2, TRS, O2, and CO for the air permits and PH for the effluents. Duties also included the support of three boilers and the associated equipment with those. One of the boilers was a hog fuel or combination boiler, which could burn coal, hog fuel, fuel oil, non-condensable gases from the pulping and black liquor evaporating processes. There were four steam turbine generators and all of the associated equipment with those, as well as maintaining the power distribution systems 161 KV, 13.8 KV, 4160 KV, 2300 V, 575 V, and 208/120 V for lighting and controls. The facility used G.E., Westinghouse, and Allen Bradley switchgear. The facility also used a Honeywell DCS system, as well as Allen Bradley and Honeywell PLC’s. The operating system used was called SAP, which I used in my work to put my time in, generate work orders, order parts, do part searches, check the inventory for parts and materials, search for equipment, and look up quality and non-quality procedures, etc. I also used a process monitoring software called Aspen Tech. This software was very good to do trends with because it has a longer history than the DCS did.

Eka Chemicals (formerly known as Eka Nobel), Columbus, MS

October 1994 to March 2003.

I worked as an Electrical and Instrumentation technician involved in all aspects of instrumentation, process and motor controls in the production of Sodium Chlorate and Hydrogen Peroxide. I was involved in the setup and installation of all instruments, automatic valves, and motors. I used a laser line up kit to align motors. I also worked with the Bailey Distributive Control System in all aspects of maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the system. I successfully completed a Bailey DCS training course. I was involved in the conducting instrument tests and verifications to maintain ISO certification for the Plant. I was involved in converting the boilers to the new Honeywell burner management and Bailey controls. I worked with a variety of instruments; for example: Rosemount, Honeywell, Bailey, Yokagawa, Fisher, Endress Hauser, and Milltronics to name a few. I was involved in the troubleshooting and maintenance of high voltage switch gear and rectifiers (13.2 KV-46 KV). I also worked with a variety of motor controls and variable speed drives including: Allen Bradley, Seimens, Westinghouse, Toshiba, and Cutler Hammer. My co-workers and I successfully completed a process of converting the chlorate plants to new Bailey Consoles in a new Master Control Room. I worked with ISO and Process Safety Management systems. I also successfully completed a training course on Trane Chillers in Pensacola, Florida. I successfully completed a one week course on ABB 46KV rectifiers, which covered all aspects of rectifiers including: the power generative source, substation equipment, harmonics, rectifier controls, transformers, maintenance, and troubleshooting. I was also a member of the Plant Emergency Response Organization(PERO), which included firefighting, HAZMAT cleanup, rope rescue, and first-aid. I attended yearly refresher training courses at the Mississippi State Fire Academy in Pearl, MS.

May 1993-September 1994

Completed Assessment Classes for new employees and assessed new employees. I completed a series of education and development classes concerning the modified fiber equipment and process. I taught classes concerning modified fiber equipment and processes. I completed training and was certified in the welding of plate steel. I was heavily involved in commissioning of equipment and systems during a very successful start up of the facility and planned jobs for shutdowns. I have worked with Honeywell TDC 3000 distributive control system including the Honeywell line of 620 programmable logic controllers.
