Led a team of enterprise architects to develop and publish a strategic roadmap to guide program development to plan for the next generation fixed income trading platform. The engagement used a set of recommended reference patterns to check the four domains (Business, Information, Application, and Technology) as guidelines in the review of current and desired end states. The approach leveraged the SEI-CMM 4+1 Architectural views using the Rozanski and Woods extensions to gain a deep understanding of current state and drive the desired end state definition. Served as acting Director of Enterprise Data Services (professional staff of over fifty professionals) for this Fortune 500 transportation company. CSX is an international transportation company offering a variety of rail, container shipping, intermodal, trucking, barging, contract logistics and related services worldwide. In 1995, the company earned $10.5 billion of operating revenue and $1.2 billion of operating income. Placed into production the company’s first data warehouse (Integrated Measures Phase I). Completed design, build, and deployment of automated processes to facilitate staging and publishing of Integrated Measures. Warehouse infrastructure, back office network design, and performance tuning completed as first Web-based applications were placed in production. Track Management placed into production during the 3rd quarter. This project was completed almost one year earlier than planned and produced approximately one (1) million dollars a month (twelve (12) million dollars annually) in benefits as calculated by the business partners. Installation and configuration of more than fifteen (15) Oracle database instances on five (5) UNIX servers (SUN002, Sun018, HP002, and IBM AIX). This mid- environment was built from scratch during the spring and early summer.

Cost saving of over two (2) million dollars realized within the mainframe database environment from operating efficiencies and performance improvements. Enterprise data model completed and continually expanded in each subject area as required. Percentage of reuse approached 50% at year-end and is expected to rise to over 70% during 1997. Data Definition Language generation was used to migrate design directly to underlying physical database during product development and maintenance.
