SUMMARY OF EXPERTISE

With over 30 years at the National Crash Analysis Center and now the Center for Collision Safety and Analysis I have gained extensive knowledge of the material I maintained and managed. This material includes but is not limited to The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Roadside Hardware Collection, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) collections like Biomechanics, FMVSS 213 Child Safety Seats, New Car Assessment Program Tests, Defect Investigations and many others. I have worked with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) crash tests and am very familiar with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and other types of safety investigations.

When new collections were contributed to the Library I devised the best indexing and access strategy for the items. I have over-seen many projects which included scanning, digitizing, organizing, cataloging and referencing large collections like the FHWA Roadside hardware Acceptance files. When the Library material was ready to be archived and sent to the National Archives & Records Administration I work closely with Government Sponsors and Appraisal Archivists to ensure a smooth and accurate record of all material being transferred to the Federal Records Center. I maintained project status pages for sponsors and wrote the monthly progress reports required for contracts.

I am comfortable and experienced with interacting with users and other developers on-line. I served as a vital resource to researchers, automotive and safety engineers, lawyers, accident re-constructors and the general public during their investigation for information, data and footage of tests maintained at the Center. I have always taken pride in providing excellent customer service. After working in the GWU Virginia Campus Library for 2 years I am very well versed in library research databases such as Lexis/Nexis, ABI/Inform, ProQuest, TRIS, WorldCat, TRID and the government Docket. I provide research, reference and training support to fellow staff members, research engineers and professors. I report to the Director of the CCSA Center and serve as center liaison providing technical papers, transportation databases, and in-depth crashworthiness research information/literature to center project teams and center staff.

Typically in consultation with the Center Director, I serve as a project coordinator and ensure that the staff and resources devoted to completing a center goal are used appropriately. I have researched, tested and implemented many types of software and equipment to improve the function of work productivity. An example of this was software and equipment which converts 16mm footage to an NTSC video format. This cut out the cost of tape stock and mailing costs when footage was ordered. I am proficient in operating a motion analyzer and high-end film conversion software and equipment which is used to archive 16mm film.
