The King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital is situated in the busy seaport of Jeddah on the western seaboard of the Red Sea. A 420-bed Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah. The hospital provides a wide range of primary, secondary, and tertiary medical services to members of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces and their dependents. The Cardiac Center, situated within the main hospital, is the only adult cardiac surgical facility in the Western Region.
In-service training and education are actively promoted by the Departments of Medical Education and Nursing Education and from within the individual departments. The program includes a weekly hospital Grand Round, monthly Nursing Grand Rounds and regular nursing study days. Inter- and intra-departmental activities include seminars, case presentations, and JournalClubs. Demonstrates skills necessary to successfully initiate, monitor & discontinue hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis & dialysis-related treatments.
Rinse, prime, position all appropriate equipment, attach all required tubing, prepare dialysate, calibrate & check alarms, set monitors & perform a system check as required.
Continuously monitors patient’s condition & appropriate vital parameters before, during & after dialysis treatments. Keep Nephrologists informed of changes in patient’s condition.
Prepares, checks, monitors & clean all needed equipment for hemo & peritoneal dialysis. Has a working knowledge of all equipment in Renal Dialysis Unit.
Initiate & discontinue dialysis utilizing an established access including administration of intradermal anesthetic as needed.
Obtain blood samples & other specimens indicated by patient’s condition or as ordered.
Administer appropriate intravenous fluids & medications, blood & blood products.
Assess, evaluate & provide care for patient’s related blood pressure & weight changes or other physical conditions, access patency, dialysate composition, blood & fluid flows, transmembrane pressure & anticoagulation according to established protocols.
Maintain proper & complete nursing notes & sign them.
Demonstrates understanding of clinical manifestations of renal disease & its treatment. i.e. anemia, fluid overload, hyperkalemia, renal osteodystrophy,
etc.
Performs “off unit” acute dialysis treatments as assigned.
Administer treatments as indicated, including medications, use of oxygen & other therapeutic measures during dialysis treatment as ordered by
Nephrologists.
Clean & dress access sites & other wounds in close proximity to the access site that may potentially contaminate the access using appropriate aseptic techniques.
Meet or provide for meeting the emotional needs of patient & family as they confront psychological impact of acute and/or chronic dialysis. Encourage patient’s development of realistic attitudes & goals via understanding of disease.
