Digging trenches or climbing poles to repair or maintain underground and overhead electrical cables

Operate diggers, bucket trucks, hand tools near and around electrical distribution lines

Conduct work outdoors in various types of weather

Maintain knowledge of and implement safety procedures at all times

Operates a variety of electronic and other test equipment with a high degree of efficiency

Job specific duties working on making jumpers for dead end poles, processing inner cores and outer dead end bodies, forming conductor rods, training fiber optic cable down structures, working out of buckets trucks or crane basket, getting grounds prepared for EPZ

Prepare materials for dead ending and clipping in transmission structures

Load and unload tools, equipment and material onto vehicles and maintain cleanliness of vehicles

Clean cover up materials, repairs, clean and inspect tools on the vehicles

Assist with material stocking, pulling of stock for projects

Pulling wires and cables by hand or mechanical means; installing ground rods using a sledge hammer or other means

Properly splice wires and make other electrical connections using correct materials, tools and procedures; dismantle used and salvageable materials

Read and interpret drawings and maps, specifications, staking sheets, and pole framing diagrams

Observe the basic principles of electricity, and become familiar with electric distribution and transmission layouts, types of equipment used and provisions of various electrical codes

Observe methods of overhead and underground line construction by: framing and setting poles; stringing and clipping-in lines; pulling and terminating cables; and installing and connecting various types of electrical equipment

Troubleshoot and properly maintain all types of electrical system equipment and components

Operate all types of electrical sectionalizing devices and other electrical equipment, including fuses, line and substation switches and circuit breakers, and underground devices

Carefully and safely drive and operate a derrick truck, bucket truck or other equipment that is used in the line crew (after proper instruction on such equipment)

Assist in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems

Assist in the placement of footings, and the assembling and erection of metal towers, framing and erection of wood poles, installation of hardware, insulators and conductors

Complete assembly and erection of steel and wood sub-stations and the installation and connection of busses, grounds, switches, circuit breakers, transformers, regulators, and other related equipment

Framing and erection of poles, installation of anchors, guys, and conductors on de-energized distribution work, including the installation and splicing of underground cables and related equipment.

Complete maintenance work on or near energized distribution conductors, including pole replacement, conductor replacement, changing insulators and cross-arms, changing and installing transformers, capacitors, regulators, switches and other distribution apparatus

Promotes safety practices and maintains good housekeeping, e.g. general cleanliness of worksites, vehicles and equipment and assures that proper tools are available and in working order

Works proficiently with hot line tools, (i.e. sticks) under energized conditions on both 15-kv overhead and 34-kv overhead systems, and 115-kv systems
