Instituted and managed the development process of a from-scratch Environmental, Health, and Safety regulatory suite of federal and state regulations and other related content available from multiple sources domestic, international, and partners. Mr. Bergen’s focus was on the overall application strategy, functionality, and operational integrity. Managed a 3rd party development organization in India that did about 95% of the development. The application is cloud-based and licensed on a subscription basis. Participated in sponsor meetings, stakeholder discussions and updates, budget management, some daily scrum calls, sprint prioritization, and review with stakeholders, and potential early adopters. Used DevOps to keep track of everything.

One of several Global Solution and Product Managers engaged in the redesign and staged release of SAP’s EHS Management (EHSM) suite of software. Focused on incident management, risk assessments, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and integration with other SAP ERP solutions (e.g., Asset Management, Plant Maintenance, Human Resources).
Worked with customers, product managers, industry associations, and developers to ensure customer acceptance using workshops, prototyping, feedback sessions, and user experience monitoring and discussion.
Participated in trade shows, pre-sales discovery, demonstrations, and RFPs.
Managed the implementation services for the health & and safety portion of the precursor solution to the SAP EHSM solution.
Trained internal services and sales staff on the solutions.
Conducted an SAP “Living Library” study to determine the viability of a new H&S application. The process involved on-site detailed discussions with several companies throughout the world, assimilation of findings, market identification, cost/revenue projections, and preparation and presentation of recommendations.
ERM Computer Services & IHS - VP of Operations and then President

Managed application development, editorial staff, and customer service staff of ENFLEX, the firm’s EH&S regulatory content offering that included US Federal, state, and several foreign countries (translated into English) regulations, proposed legislation, MSDS, and several other related collections.
Introduced ENFLEX “RegChange” which was the first EH&S regulatory solution to publish character-by-character changes to regulatory content. The company was
acquired by IHS; however, ERM Computer Services became the surviving entity of the merger. Mr. Bergen managed the technical and product strategy for the merger. Became President of the merged company (approx. $8M revenue / 65 employees) about one year later.

Initially developed custom mainframe computer applications to support projects and/or use of industry-standard applications at mainframe operations centers. Project highlights and accomplishments include:
Worked for several Fortune 500 companies evaluating their current EH&S business processes and as part of a multi-functional team. Developed a strategy and collected needs and requirements for improvements. Organized all the processes and methodologies from project inception to the selection of an appropriate solution.
Rewrote a critical section of a FORTRAN program that simulated the movement of a freight train through its route. This enhancement was made to properly simulate the movement from Chicago to New Orleans back in 1976. Served as one of three full-time consultants for the Penn Central Railroad that managed all the data processing, modeling, and programming, regarding the valuation of the railroad’s assets that were purchased from the bankrupt railroad by CONRAIL in the late 70s. This lawsuit, at the time, resulted in the largest settlement ($2.1 billion) in the history of the US for similar cases. Submitted “Expert Testimony” refuting one of the government’s witnesses. The results were unchallenged by the AMTRAK / CONRAIL litigation.
Developed a “retire or replace” decision application for the subway cars of the NYC Transit Authority based on age, maintenance history, relevant costs, and many other parameters.
